The Influence of Teachers and Learners Relationship on Academic Performance
Abstract
Students’ achievement in any teaching and learning situation is very important. Unfortunately, students’ performance in secondary school has not been very encouraging as consistently highlighted by the moderators and chief Examiners reports and WAEC and NECO business studies results for past decade. This problem of poor performance is apparently assuming a dimension that could affect the entire economy situation in the country. However, effort has been made in this paper to assess the influence of teachers and learners relationship on academic performance, also solutions has also been profered in the paper to revert this appalling situation in the educational sector.

Introduction:
Over the years, divergent views have been expressed as to the falling standard of education in the Nigeria. This view has been attributed partly to the woeful performance of the students with particular reference to senior secondary school certificate examination. Despite the unique contributions of education to the Nigerian economy system (that is, socio-economic, political and physical development), it cannot still be regarded as an advance sector due to the various factors, constraints and challenges that face the system. Education asserts the need to inculcate in our youths, the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes. Unfortunately, education is at present in an unfavourable teaching and learning condition in the secondary schools which are expected to generate adequate number of independent Nigerian citizen and self-reliance in the country. This poor performance has been attributed to a number of causes, among which are laxity on the part of the teachers and non-challant attitudes of parent. Moreso, inadequate / lack of students and teachers relationship among the noticeable problems remained a major challenge to student academic performance in secondary school.
