The Importance of Tawbah in Islam
Introduction
To maintain your relationship with Allah (SWT) , everyone who worships Allah (SWT) must sincerely regret their sins and feel sorry for what they had done and ask for forgiveness (perform Tawbah) from Allah (SWT) .
Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan says about the importance and the conditions of repentance (Tawbah):
“Astaghfaar is when you say Astaghfirullah with your tongue and regret with your heart and ask for forgiveness of Allah (SWT) . When you commit a sin and then perform Tawbah, and then commit a sin and believe that your Tawbah had not been accepted, this is wrong. This is whispering from of Shaytan. Your Tawbah had been accepted.”
If you repent with a sincere heart and decide firmly not to commit a sin, then hopefully, you will not commit a sin again.
Translation of Hadith: The one who repents from a sin is like the one who did not sin at all.
وَاسْتَغْفِرِ اللّهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
Hadith No: 4240, Majma Uz Zawaaid,
Vol. 10, Pg No: 200).
When you repent, all the sins until now are forgiven. Not only they are forgiven, but they are also wiped out from your records of deeds حالصال. If you end up sinning again, repent again. It should be accepted if you are sincere and honest about asking to be forgiven.
Worship done without Tawbah is accepted, but worship after Tawbah is good.
Say the words mentioned in the Hadith: Astaghfirullahil Azeem Al Ladhi La Ilaha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyumu Wa Atubu Ilaih.
Learn this and if you are not able to remember, say: Astaghfirullah. This means: “O Allah (SWT) ! I beg for Your forgiveness.”
Daily, when you lie down on your bed, recite Astaghfaar three times. If you do this, all the sins of the day are wiped out from
