The Importance Of PVT Ball
I feel that as if PVT Ball is giving up and no longer wants to fight. In my opinion he is dying. However, he does wants to live. Yes, he abandoned his weapon and kept his gas mask. He has lost his will to fight. By abandoning his weapon is one way to ensure that if anyone stumbles upon him they would not kill him. In both war time as well as peace time, there is an unspoken rule that one would not kill an unarmed man. However, he can be taken into captivity. By keeping the gas mask, it also ensures PVT Ball would have survived in the event of a chemical attack.
The way the author used allusions to covey the importance of the weapon is so amazing. He incorporated important women in one’s life to ensure that he knew his weapon as well as treat

Maxine Hong Kingston’s memoir the “ Woman Warrior” has a very alluring writing style. Her beautifully written words drag readers into the abyss of fable and reality. Nevertheless, to many her writing style may seem unnerving and difficult to pinpoint, and can make one question the ability to fathom English ! Consequently, readers are pulled into the paradox between words and meaning. Kingston’s memoir is like no other writer, her words are a graceful dance that swing the reader along for the ride. Her diction is the dance in motion: throughout the book, she says words that mean much more than a mere definition. For example, the use of the word “ghost” is used to convey not just a supernatural phenomena, but an outsiders…

In Iron Jawed Angels, I also saw the heartache and hard work that Alice Paul and Lucy Burns had to go through to fight for the rights of women. I watched carefully as these women voiced their opinion so demandingly and courageously that even in the male governed society they overcame their trial and errors. All of these obstacles that they went through were so inspirational because these women have shown us to always fight for what you believe in, even if everyone else is fighting against…

    Bloody Chamber Essay

The text uses the occurrence of sex as an act of aggression, erotic brutality, and dominance in which the male partner is seen as sadistic and the female partner is seen as oppressed. This is portrayed by The Marquis’ wives, both past and present, as he objectifies them by placing them on display, enabling him to manipulate and mold them to satisfy his perverse erotic tastes. Additionally, all of the female roles are unnamed, only referred to by jobs for example the Mother, the Opera Singer, the Evening Star Walking on the Rim of Night, and the Romanian Countess (Carter 1990: 4), drawing attention to the idea of gender inequity as the women are not worth of a name (Barry 1995: 126). The act of sexual objectification by The Marquis lends itself to interpretation as The Bloody Chamber depicts the darker side of sexual relationships, exploring the essentialist idea that men and women are different beings. The text symbolizes the inequality between men and women in the ‘[m]ost pornographic of all confrontations’ (Carter 1990: 8), through the satirical images by Felicien Rops, where a fully clothes man is sizing up a naked women as though she is “a lamb chop” (Carter 1990: 8). From the…

Merida broke her clan traditions placed for a proper princess in a series of flying arrows and close up shots, accompanied by the sounds and music of Scotland. Imperator Furiosa rushes headstrong into battle with an armed man, quick shots and cuts centring her movements on the camera provide the audience with feelings of awe and inspiration from her courage. Neither of these women fit into the stereotypes of their genre, instead of seeking betrothal Merida aims to avoid it and instead of being presented as weak or a romance option to her male counterpart, Furiosa doesn’t hesitate to attack. Both depictions of fictional women make them more enjoyable for the audience and gives them a modern, relatable woman who does not exist only for the male’s gaze or enjoyment. The film’s creators have successfully created women who fit into strong female gender roles, placed not as a girl waiting for her prince or a sexualised action movie lusting for the male protagonist but as…

The Femme does not assert her dominance in a traditional sense, using her cunning wit and beauty instead to ensnare her prey. The danger she poses to others is not due to her ability to fire a gun or to brawl but because of “her control over her own sexuality outside of marriage” (Blaser, The Femme Fatale). Her sensuality is a weapon and a means to survive in the hostile world that she has no say in. As exemplified in Double Indemnity, Phyllis cajoled both Neff and Nino into acting against their self-interest for her own. She did not kill her husband directly, merely using what she had at her disposal to achieve her goal with the least amount of damage to herself. The same concept applies to her mental reconditioning of Nino, whom she had hoped to use to take care of a loose end that could be used to incriminate her. The Femme Fatale’s unabashed exploitation of her sexuality is like a double-edged sword. She is able to better protect herself with it, but at the same time, it opens her up to vulnerabilities that may end up killing…

When the gun is turned against its owner, the situation usually turns fatal. There are just too many cases of owners being killed by their own weapons. This reasoning once again applies to "A Peaceful Woman..." It seems that the main character almost purposely gets herself into these situations, to try and prove the pwer of her gun, which seems to be a popular thing among may people. One too many times this power gets turned on the owner, because the owner was cocky, and let their guard down, and in the end there goes another life.…

She states, “If the first woman god ever created was strong enough to turn the world upside down … these women together ought to be able to turn it right side up again! And the men better let them.” This humorizes her speech to stagger the audience with her conclusion and leave them in amaze and suspense with her rebellious and unladylike personality in hopes to make her actions intrinsic within others and shared throughout her society and history.…

While it is obvious that Vowell’s personality collides with the character of her father, her sense of humor draws on a tongue in cheek approach to pointing out that although they are different, they were always alike. “All he ever cared about were guns” and “All I ever cared about was art” suggests Vowell finds a commonality in their differences.…
