The Importance Of ICD-10 Codes In Healthcare
Thousands and thousands of codes were added to ICD-10 compared to ICD-9. This new change is for a very important reason, improvement of quality of care for the patients, among other reasons as well (Freed Associates, 2016). First, ICD-10 codes provide nurses, physicians, etc. with more options with more detailed codes so they don’t have to modify as often and really get all the information across with just one specific code. With this change, it improves patient and public health tracking, they can now see more detailed information of a patient’s progression or even an overall public disease. They also can provide more detailed information on accidents and injuries, such as where they happened, and what injuries the patient suffered from.
