The Importance Of Censorship To The United States Constitution
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution is primarily supported by the government in America, however, are the rights stated in this amendment promised in other countries? The words of the amendment emphasize the importance of the right to petition the government; the ability of American citizens to request changes in the government. Although the amendment provides Americans with a sense of awareness on the happenings of the world, other countries, such as Ukraine, do not endorse the purpose of the amendment. The lack of enforcement in the European country creates a “World where choice has been taken away and reality distorted… the most dangerous world of all.” (Lowry). For years, those in Ukraine have lived without basic freedoms, limited by their president, Viktor Yanukovych and their government’s censorship. The Ukrainian government may not have to promote the United States’ principles, yet are expected to follow the articles of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. By this document, censorship of any manner is illegal, questioning the action of any government’s right to censorship.

When the government restricts content on the Internet and social networking applications, they are denying artists their right to express themselves. Preferably, the government can take a lighter approach and merely monitor media to maintain the safety of a country. If a country seems to be in danger, the government should intervene, for their purpose is to protect citizens, not to dismiss
