The importance of accountability

In the army accountability is everything. The definition of accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. You have to have accountability for everything you do formation ceremonies to the items that you carry on you every day I’m going to give you 5 examples of when and why accountability would be very important example one having accountability of your soldiers if you are a NCO you always need to know where your solider are because fort Bragg is a rapid deployment base and if your platoon gets called up to be on GRF and your soldiers are not where they are supposed to be then it is not only your ass its everyone in the platoon. You need to keep accountability off your soldiers for pt because if they have a random piss test and your soldier I not there they need to know why that is examples of when a nco would need to keep accountably of their soldiers A soldier not having accountability off his military id is another example of why it is so important to have accountability of his or her stuff not to long ago we were at forscom level bravo and you had to have you id to get into the motor pool even to get in to the barracks and one of the biggest things that not having accountability of your id card is for the single soldiers trying to eat in the chow halls or trying to get on base losing your military identification card is punishable under ucmj not having this one item will give you many problems you will have to go to the provost Marshalls office and fill out a report just to get the permission to get another one then you have to go to either your brigade or division to get another on and it makes you look like a shitty soldier and that can and will stick with you for a while if a soldier does not keep accountability if his id card he could also have his identity stolen and have bad credit or a terrorist could get ahold of it and get in to the base and plot

    Accountability is very important in the Army. Accountability is taking responsibility for your actions and your items. By meaning what you say, saying what you mean, and doing what you say, when you say you will do it. By keeping track of all my items and equipment I can always be ready for anything that is needed of me by my country, my superiors, or other servicemen. Being accountable means being dependable. Being in formation on time everyday is an prime example of accountability. Formation is where the Army takes accountability of everyone and to get important information out that needs to be dealt with. Without accountability there is no knowing of where everyone is or whats going on. Knowing where your equipment and personal effects are at all times is very important also. By not putting a lock on my wall locker, I was not talking responsibility for my own items, and not doing what I was told to do by my superiors. I was not being responsible. Keeping my items locked and secured is very important now and in the future. As with keeping all sensitive items secured and accounted for later on. Keeping my wall locker locked, keeps accountability of all my items and teaches me to always maintain my equipment, my arms, and myself. Many things could have happened by me failing to adhere to my responsibilities. My wall locker could have been vandalized, or items of mine could have been stolen. And if it was sensitive information that was seen or taken, I could have jeopardized people lives or the outcome of our country.     As a soldier of the world’s most powerful military force, the U.S Army, it is imperative that I demonstrate competence, efficiency, and professionalism at all times. To achieve this goal accountability is an absolute necessity. As a soldier I must maintain constant accountability of my equipment and my team. Without constant visual and/or physical security of my equipment I would be making it too easy for the enemy to take my equipment and use it against me and my fellow soldiers. Without accountability of my fellow soldiers I put them as well as myself in danger. If I don’t know where my team is it is impossible to come to their aid if needed and vice versa. That being said it is a key part in being a leader for that exact reason. Accountability in its self is a major part of not only being in the military, but many different aspects of life as well. The rules apply where ever you go. Parents must maintain accountability of their children, teachers must maintain accountability of their students, and supervisors must maintain accountability of their workers. No matter what you do in life you will have to keep accountability of someone or something, and someone will most likely be keeping accountability of you, there is no getting around it. Most crimes happen when people are lost and/or nobody knows where they are. If somebody at least knows the general area of where you are they can find you a lot quicker than if they were just searching where you might be. That in its self could be the difference between life and death. People lose their jobs over accountability every day.
