The impact of a television on children

In today society, every American house have at least one television. Television can be both a valuable asset as well as a negative influence for children of all ages. There is always an on-going debate whether the television influences the children. But there isn’t a doubt that the television has an impact on a children. According to a study of American Psychological Association shows that television viewing has led to shortened attention spans in children. When introducing a good educational programs to the children, it can help expand their learning potential in the future. But television viewing can also affect the children learning ability, short attention span and teach them to be lazy. Therefore, too much television is not good for the children. Most of the time, television shows provides no educational benefits for young children (Foster). The children are busy watching television and it leaves less room for activities or like interacting with other people. Three studies from University of New Mexico have shown that watching television delays language development, even if it includes educational programming like Sesame Street, Baby Einstein. Dr.Vic Strasburger said “babies require face to face interaction to learn. They don’t get that interaction from watching TV or videos. In fact, the watching probably interferes with the crucial wiring being laid down in their brains during early development." Parents generally assume that products such as Baby Einstein promises to make the babies smarter include speaking skills. But the parents are wrong, majority of though videos don’t try to promote language or any helpful to babies. I believe children require face to face interaction to learn. Children do not get that interaction from watching television. There is nothing better than the parents spending time with their children like reading books, talking to them and play with them. Sometime even watching a

    In today 's world everywhere, we go there is some type of media. In most homes, there are at least one or more TV sets. Adults are known for watching so much TV our younger generations are starting to develop the same habit if not worse due to more technology. Children are exposed to watching TV at such young age due to their parents watching TV. Children ages two to five years old watch an average of 32 hours of television a week, that is doubled that recommended amount per day. TV is a nice relaxing pastime for a couple hours but not when the privilege is abused. TV is ok but not when it is excessive television. When toddlers watch too much television it can cause health problems such as bad eating habits and obesity. Toddlers learn that watching TV is better than going outside to play.     These days just about every household owns a TV. There are many programs for children on the TV and we may think that it is harmless for a child to watch TV because they are “educational” or what not. True, some shows can teach your child some beneficial things such as learning to count or the alphabet, yet if a child is watching too much TV how can this impact the way children interact? TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” I personally have noticed that kids in this day and age play less outdoors and when I was a child I always wanted to go play outside and use my imagination to create my own adventures. Now I see many parents struggle to get their kids to go outside and play. I notice many kids are addicted to watching TV or even more so be stuck on playing video games. According to (CNN.com) “ when you consider that more time is spent in front of a television means less time spent on homework or having stimulating interactions with adults or other children. In addition, late-night TV watching tires kids out so that they can't pay attention in school. Also, television hands kids all the answers, promoting passive learning and short attention spans. As a result, kids have difficulty concentrating and working hard to solve a problem.”…

    Television can have positive or negative effects on our children. Children learn by watching and imitating adults. Television provides many influences for children that may not be what you wish for your kids. Television has become a "member" of almost every single family on our planet. And not just an ordinary member, but a very important one, because the time spent next to it exceeds the amount of time spent together with any other family member.
