The Impact of Winning the Lottery It’s estimated that that millions of people play lotteries every day. These include both the old and young generation. These include people that already have money and people who desperately need money. It seems that everyone wants to be a lottery winner! Winning the lottery can have a great impact on people’s daily lives which include positive influences and negative effects. Three of the impacts are affecting the happiness, impacting the interpersonal relationships, and endangering ourselves.
First, obviously winning the lottery will change people’s emotion, especially increasing the happiness. It is reported that winning the lottery allows people to fulfill dreams they never would otherwise get to see come true, to afford material goods that seemed out of reach, and to pay off loans and mortgages for themselves and their loved ones. Unsurprisingly, the majority of lottery winners (55%) are happier than before. Less than 2% of the big lottery winners define themselves as less happy after their win. (Lotter Blog) In fact, most people feel happy and excited because they can do lots of things that they looking forward to do but unachieved such as developing their interest, joining the charitable activities, and improving the quality of the life.
A famous example is a movie called Everlasting Movement (Christensen) which is based on the true story of Maria Larsson, a Swedish housewife in the early 20th century, who wins a camera in a lottery and became a photographer. When she got the knowledge of camera from her grandfather, she found out that she was crazing about the camera but she could not have one because of the poor. So winning the lottery in a fortuitous is an exciting thing for this ordinary housewife. She took hundreds of thousands photos since then, and try her best to join the competition.
