The Hunger Games Book Citation
The first book of the Hunger Games is the spark that started the fire of love and rebellion. Katniss Everdeen, age 16, lives in District 12 with her sister, Primrose (Prim) Everdeen, age 12, and her mom, her father had died in a mining accident when she was young. Her best friend, Gale Hawthorne, age 18, was her hunting partner, together they helped provide food for each other’s family. During the reaping, which is a drawing performed by Effie Trinket, Katniss volunteers as tribute in replace of her sister. The male tribute for District 12 was Peeta Mellark, who had given her burnt bread when she was young and slowly starving after her father had died.
