Film makers should definitely have the ability to reflect on the greatest triumphs and tragedies of our time by effectively presenting them through the use of film techniques. The Help, directed by Tate Taylor, allows us to on the greatest triumphs and tragedies. Tate Taylor presents these triumphs and tragedies in his 2011 film, The Help by using a range of characters and situations, as well as through film techniques such as dialogues, camera work and costume.

Taylor uses the film techniques of dialogues and voice over to show evidently this triumph to the audience. In a scene, inside the church, the technique of dialogue is used to show this triumph. In the dialogue, Preacher Green says, “See, courage... isn't just about being brave. Courage is daring to do what is right in spite of the weakness of our flesh. And God tells us, commands us, compels us, to love. Amen? See, love, as exemplified by our Lord Jesus Christ, is to be prepared to put yourself in harm's way for your fellow man…” This shows the audience how this dialogue helps Aibileen decide to share her stories with Skeeter. In another scene Taylor uses the character of Aibileen to show this triumph. This is the closing scene in The Help, where Hilly falsely accuses Aibileen of stealing silver and Aibileen talks back to her, she says, “All you do is scare and lie to try to get what you want! ... You a Godless woman! Ain't you tired, Miss Hilly? Ain't you tired? ” This shows the audience one of the greatest triumphs in the movie, The Help, it shows how the book written by Aibileen becomes successful and she triumphs over Hilly through this book. Jolene says to Skeeter “Well, if it isn't "Long Haul" Skeeter. We didn't ever think you'd leave Ole Miss.” This shows the audience how Skeeter is triumphs over the social boundaries of women of her class. Skeeter is the only one out of her friends who had complete college. Similarly, the technique of costume is used to show the audience how Skeeter breaks through the social expectations of girls of her class. Skeeter costume is distinct from the rest of her friends. She wears business-like clothes that are earthy colours, she wears flat shoes and Skeeter’s hair is more natural than the other girls. This costume of Skeeter shows the audience that she does not meet what is required of a girl of her class and she tries to be different. Taylor successfully uses the techniques of dialogue and costume to show how Skeeter triumphs over the suppressive social boundaries of girls of her class.
