The Heart of Downtown Toronto
Where would you go in Toronto to see a free outdoor concert or festival? Yonge-Dundas Square also known as YD square is located right across from Eaton Centre Shopping Mall at Yonge and Dundas. YD Square was previously called Wilton street. The place has been historically known as the Centre of a Community as well. Upon the approval of Toronto City Council, YD Square project was started in 1998. The project was jointly involved with not only the City of Toronto, but also the downtown Yonge street businesses and resident associations. Then, the construction of the new YD squares was completed in 2003, and the first public-private partnership called the board of management for YD Square was established to manage the public square in Canada. Because Yonge-Dundas Square, outdoor piazza, promotes plenty of free events and entertainment to bring people together in the heart of downtown Toronto, the community should develop strategic plans for public safety and seasonality.

The advantages of YD Square are its location, accessibility, and outdoor event space. It is located in the central part of the downtown Toronto community. It is a public piazza and easily accessible by public transportation. Besides, the place is wide-open space so people with limited mobility can easily access to the piazza. As I look at the square across from the street, a huge L.E.D. screen is installed in the left side of the YD Square close to the entrance of Dundas subway. Info booth is close to the subway entrance as well. Two rows of lighted fountains are in the centre of the YD Square. A big stage is also behind the fountains, and small trees are on the right side.
