The Happiest Day of My Life so Far
What has been the happiest day of your life so far?
In your essay, tell what happened that made it so wonderful. Use your personal observations, experience, and knowledge

Over the course of my life, I have experienced many days of happiness; they all had a unique ingredient that separated them from each other as a distinct experience. There is; however, a day that I remember with extra fondness, a day that occupies a bigger space in my heart, the day of my eighteenth birthday. I suppose I could say this is possibly the happiest day in my life so far. The three factors that made this day so special were: a birthday cake, my friends, and a train station.

First factor was the birthday cake. Not an ordinary one, but a torte au pommes, the best cake this side of the Pyrenees, and possible the reason why so many people came to my birthday parties. There was never a birthday without a cake, but the torte au pommes was the best one indeed.
This was thanks to the fact that undoubtedly; my mother was the most gifted baker in the area and she knew exactly were to get the right ingredients.

Second, my friends. They came early that day as I was leaving the country in the evening. Strangely enough, they did not bring any presents as they always did in the past. It did not matter, all of them came as it was going to be the last birthday I ever spent with them, as the hours went by, I said my goodbyes and left to the train station.

Finally yet importantly, the train station, I had a train ticket to travel around Europe for a month. At the end of the month I was not coming back, it was my journey to independence.
To my surprise, as I arrived to the platform all of my friends and family were there, with hands full of presents and another torte au pommes. It was a going-away-turning-eighteen birthday party. Everyone was there, old friends, new friends and their families.

The motion of the train slowly leaving the station, the powerful emotion of the farewell still

The entire day was like that: a powerful awakening of whom and what I would truly miss. I became sentimental about saying good-bye to many people I had taken for granted—the regulars who came into the restaurant where I worked, the ones I never seemed to find time to speak with. I had to leave all of my friends and also the classmates I had always intended to "get to know someday." Most importantly, I would be forced to say farewell to the ones who raised me.…

This lively feeling was short lived as my most ‘memorable moment’ happened during our journey back home. The bus was filled with cultural music and we were all eating away at the traditional American cheese burgers with fries. This peaceful and friendly atmosphere was soon disturbed by a large burst and tilting movement of the coach. We all looked on ahead with our stuffed mouths waiting upon the news of what was going on. We were informed that the tyres had burst and, in no other than one of the busiest places in the world. New York City.…

American Author Zane Gray once stated “I hate birthdays.” Perhaps he said this because he has had a bad experience with birthdays. Maybe he simply doesn’t like celebrating something as frivolous as a birthday. Personally, I concur with Mr. Gray’s statement, I too, hate birthdays. Even though the vast majority of the population enjoy their birthday and most likely consider it their favorite holiday, birthdays do not appeal to me however because of, my past natal day experiences, the annoyance of the annual overhyped celebrations, and my fear of being disappointed again.…

It was the day I came into this world, even though I was pretty early, and one of the most special birthdays to my parents as well. It’s a day that is more likely than not all about me and I usually end up getting some gifts. Some people see birthdays as a sign of getting old, but I like seeing them as a milestone of another year of living and another chapter in my life and that is the way I would like to continue to see it in that way.…

On day three, it was my birthday, so the night before, I got to sleep on my own bed. When we got to breakfast, I got a song sung to me. After the morning, we visited Arlington National Cemetery to see where John F. Kennedy was buried and also to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Our last stop at D.C. was the Capitol and it wasneat. Afterwards, we took off for New York. I fell asleep right away and woke up just in time to see the skyline and it was beautiful. It was spring break of my senior year and my dance team plus our moms were about to travel to the city that never sleeps. It takes a long time for me to get to the best place in the world. Usually three of four hours will but us in Savannah, Tennessee, unless I'm driving. Although the drive is long and tedious, the nature around me on the way is so beautiful. There are hills, trees, pigs, cows, and green grass as far as I can see. My family and I always have the best time on that very long drive. We fill the car with country music, and we all join in and sing along. Laughter, singing, and wonderful conversation fill my ears all the way there. I always love to be able to have good conversation with my mom and brother. Without the long drive and enormous amount of time, the visit wouldn't be the same. The best memory that I have would have to be how every time, like clockwork, we stop right in the middle of the drive and do the same things. We stop in the same spot, we buy the same things, and we always use the restroom. Although it's more of a tradition and not a memory, I can always count on stopping there for a midway drive snack. When we almost reach our destination, there is one special road that my brother and I get very…

I met people from many different countries and I ate many unusual and exquisite foods. So many interesting things happened that I can’t even remember them all, though many of them will always stand out in my mind. Our return flight was bittersweet for all of us, because although we all wanted to go home to our families we also didn’t want to leave Europe and all of our new friends behind. I learned a lot about the world and became more confident in myself on this trip. My dad said that I came back different; a little more mature. I am so happy that I got to go and hope to get back there again, one…
