What is the American Dream? The American Dream is in the Declaration of Independence and it proclaims “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among the are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure the rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Many people have an idea of what they want for their American Dream. The Dream could be about money, power, family, or whatever a person might want. The world may say that the Dream is unachievable, but the Dream is achievable if worked at it. In The Great Gatsby Gatsby wasn't able to achieve his Dream but that doesn't mean the Dream is out of reach. Most people want money and power which can be hard to achieve, but the Dream can still achieved. The Dream is not just about worldly items it could be about wanting to have a loving and caring family. Some of the immigrants' dreams have been just living in America, but there were some that came to America and became CEOs of big companies. When the slaves were let free they wanted an American Dream too and so the people made one and worked to achieve it. When slaves were legal they had dreams to be equal and not to be treated so badly. “Tomorrow I'll be at the table When company comes.
