* The Great Gatsby Rate 4. * As a group, we decided to rate this book a four because this is the only book that seems to be interesting, as well as inspiring that we’ve read in English class so far. The main character, Gatsby used his passionate of love for Daisy as a powerful tool for him to become rich. He concentrated all of his life trying to re-create the past with Daisy, as well as winning her back. Although, Daisy wasn’t worth it for all of his efforts due to that fact that she ran away with Tom while Gatsby was waiting for her after she ran over Myrtle with a car. Gatsby felt that his life would be nothing without Daisy so he took the blame for it and ended up dying without feeling regret. Therefore, we think that’s pretty inspiring for him to have her back even though she betrayed him. Importantly, this book represents the American dream that money and popularity are all there is to achieve in this world. Gatsby gives everything he has emotionally and physically to win Daisy. It’s the belief of money and popularity is all it takes to achieve anything in this world leads to Gatsby’s downfall and we strongly think that this statement represents our society. * In my opinion, I think I would recommend this book to a friend because it’s a good book based on a man who is nothing more than a man desperate for love; a man who pretends to be educated and wealthy to impress a girl which actually makes him unbelievably rich and sacrifices his life for her. Importantly, I strongly think that this book should be taught in English class because it’s an amazing piece of American literature in the tradition of tragic love stories and it’s very easy to understand compared to other books such as The Scarlet Letter and The Crucible. Another reason is because this novel was written in the 1920s; the time where America has fully recovered the First World War which delves into our history. It shows what Americans was like to live during
