The Greasers Conflict Essay
There were three brothers who lived alone in a small town because their parents died in a car crash. These three brothers were part of a group called the Greasers. The Greasers were a lower class group of people in a town who didn’t have much money, nice cars or clothes. There was another group known as the Socials. They were known for having a fair amount of money, nice cars, houses and clothes. Throughout this story the Greasers and Socials have many conflicts because the Socials believe they are above the Greasers due to their way of life. After some time things start to change. In the first part of the story the youngest boy of the three brothers, Ponyboy gets beat up by some of the Socials. “Need a haircut Greaser?”, I finally said “No” as I backed right up into one of them. They had me down in a second. They had my arms and legs pinned down and one of them sitting on my chest with his knees on my elbows, if you don’t think that hurts you’re crazy. They would do anything to help anyone. “I snatched up another kid, hoping he didn't bite, and dropped him without waiting to see if he landed okay or not. I was coughing so hard I could hardly stand up, and I wished I had time to take off Dally's jacket. It was hot. We dropped the last of the kids off at the front of the church before it started to crumble” (S.E. Hinton pg.79). Throughout the story the Greasers show how helpful they are, unlike the Socials who are snobs.
The Socials finally realize just because they have material things, doesn't make them better people. Greasers and Socials are the same just with different ways of life. The morale of the story is life as a popular person isn’t all that great. One becomes closer with people when you’re not in the spotlight. Overall this is a interesting story with a good life

    The book I read was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book is about the rivalry between the two groups which are the Greasers VS. Soc’s. The main characters in this story are Ponyboy, Johnny, Dallas, Darry, Sodapop, and Two-bit. The Soc’s puts Ponyboy Curtis and his best friend Johnny in a bad and dangerous spot. One night at the movies, Ponyboy and Johnny fall in love with Sherri and Marcia after they got Dally, the toughest of the Greasers to stop attempting to get with the girls. Sherri and Marcia are from the snobbish and rich group, the Socs but that doesn’t bother Johnny and Ponyboy from liking them. That night, after the movies, they went to the park and when the Soc’s were beating up on Ponyboy, the small and scared Johnny gets up and stabs a member of the Soc’s. After the stabbing that Johnny did they run away to a church in Windrixville and supply food for a week with only one gun and some money. After staying there for a week the church catches on fire and kids are inside. Johnny and Ponyboy risk their lives to save the kids and unfortunately Johnny dies a little bit after. Then they rumble with the Soc’s and win! They did it for Johnny and that’s what determined them to win.…

They all slick back their hair with grease, and that's where the name Greasers came from.
