The Goonies Review
ACTIVITY 5
THE GOONIES (1985)
DIRECTED BY RICHARD DONNER
PG 14

This film is a unique film that is available for the whole family to view. It has all the elements that an action/ adventure film has and even includes a little bit of romance. It is a humorous film that includes more than just an average adventure story plotline. It shows the journey of all the characters and how they develop a relationship with each other as well as their inner selves. They learn to work together and become close friends.
The Goonies is about a group of young children (they call themselves the Goonies) that happen to find a treasure map. So they decided to go on the hunt for treasure in order to stop a sports club from buying their only home. When they reached the site to start their treasure hunt, the home they went in belonged to a group of criminals that have recently escaped from prison. The group of children get caught and most of them managed to escape, except a chubby boy nicknamed “Chunk”. He tells the criminals about what they were doing and it gave the prisoners an idea to follow the Goonies. The Goonies surpassed many life or death challenges and manages to reach the place where the treasure was hidden. Chunk was trapped in a room with one of the criminal’s son that happened to be abnormal and looked kind of like a monster. He soon turned out to be a really nice guy that just wanted to go out. At the treasure site, the criminals and the Goonies battle each other for the treasure and managed to leave the place safe and sound. The criminal’s son then brings out the criminals and handed them over to the police. Luckily there was some treasure on them and it was enough for the Goonies to save their home.
The movie is targeting young children and families. This is so they could set out on their own adventure and learn that having each other is the most important thing in the world. Treasure does not equal to family and friends. This film appeals to the young audience

"It's a lovely story full of love and fun and adventure. I love this classy edition with illustrations that deliberately avoid linkage to the film. There is much more humor in the book than they could get into the film. The humor works very well and the characters are entrañables.Me likes adventures and actions in this book and especially how the book related to the cycle of hero…

I felt as though this movie was a worthy representation of three specific concepts I have learned so far this semester in psychology. Different situations in the movie led me to think about parenting styles, adolescence, as well as the social learning theory of gender-role development. In the beginning of the movie, the parents have not yet united their two families of 18 children. The father’s job as an admiral has forced his 8 children to relocate more than 12 times over the years.…

In the beginning of the film, each member of the family feels isolated from one another, a series of montage shots as the opening scene, of each of the characters alone and going about their daily routine, conveys the initial distance while introducing each of the characters. We aimed to emphasise the members as individuals, to portray their lack of connection to each other.…

It is a glimpse into how differently a father would raise his children if given a chance to do so without interference or boundaries. It reminds us that once parents learn to listen to each other instead of fighting with each other during divorce proceedings they will finally come around to doing what is best for their children. The movie introduces the viewers to the changing dynamic of the American family. Mothers are no longer stay at home moms who simply tend to children and cook meals. These days women like Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) are career driven heads of industries. It is also not uncommon these days to find a stay at home dad like Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams). The problem with this situation is that even though mothers bring home the bacon, they are still expected to come home and perform their wifely and motherly duties. Something that society has not once, throughout the history or marriages expected from the husband and father. Such a situation indeed takes its toll on any marriage and weakens the foundation of the…

Throughout the film you follow Liam on his challenging search for his daughter. The storyline was confusing where it would bounce from the father’s perspective to the daughters and leave off at different spots. After being slightly puzzled from plot twists and confusing dialog the story picks up and the hunt for Kim continues. The graphics of the movie were awesome and it was jam packed with constant action and thrill. Most of the more dramatic scenes left me clinging to my popcorn and hanging off my seat in suspense. The main character was a great actor, who made the action scenes so much more intense and realistic. When Liam was fighting off the kidnappers he seemed as much of a hero as a Superman!…
