In the UK, the tone of the debate about public service broadcasting was set in the earlier radio era. John Reith, the first Director General of the BBC, wrote,3 “the preservation of a high moral tone is obviously of paramount importance.” And “[t]here is no harm in trivial things; in themselves they may even be unquestionably beneficial, for they may assist the more serious work by providing the measure of salt which seasons.” Coase (1950, page 177) remarked that…

Musical shows, children’s shows, movies, news, and so much more are on TV. Television doesn’t only entertain us, but it helps us in so many ways. We can learn from TV. Different educational channels are created to help us learn (Cochrane). TV is a way for us to get information, too, just like books and the Internet. Lastly, television can also affect people and their lives. Before TV, there was more interaction between people (www.printmoment.com). Today, there is not as much interaction and communication between people. As you can see, television helped shape modern America by helping people learn, affecting people’s lives, and brining new ways to broadcast information to Americans.…

Televisions were first commercialized in 1949, and can be found in almost every home to this day. However, television’s “Golden Age” was between the years in 1953-55 when programming started branching away from radio formats, and networks like NBC, ABC, and CBS started becoming major players in television. Ever since the “Golden Age of Television”, television itself has grown immensely, with color broadcasting emerging in 1964, public broadcasting (PBS) in 1967, video cassettes in 1980, and many more advancements having been developed or being developed.…

In 1884 the first ideas of the television came to an inventor by the name of Paul Nipkow. It was called the scanning disk and was patented by him in 1884. It worked by having a large disk spin in front of an object, while the photoelectric cell that worked it would take in the changes in the light of the object. If the electricity put up significant changes, then some of the light bulbs on the device would light up and some wouldn't. The concept never took off though because of two reasons. The prototype had too many loopholes, and the disk never scanned a clear live-action picture…
