Most people rely on the security and care of others to provide for their loved ones when they put them in a nursing home. What they don’t realize is how much neglect goes on to the people they care most about. Residents are at risk of being abused by their caretakers but they are also at risk of being restrained, which may lead to a form of abuse. At Southwestern Nursing Home I have witnessed forms of neglect and abuse. Nursing homes are meant to be a place for security for the elderly to be cared for in their golden years, and it has become an unpleasant experience for senior citizens being subjected to acts of abuse and neglect.…

One would think that purchasing your first home would be a very fascinating experience; after all it is one of the most major purchases of your entire life. In America, home ownership ties in with the American Dream and the spirit of working hard to one day earn through hard work a home with a white picket fence. My husband and I felt that it was time for us to reward ourselves for all the hard work we have been putting in over the years by purchasing our first home, which was well overdue. I quickly learned the process of purchasing your first home can be very frustrating and stressful. However, if you survive the home buying process the reward is priceless once you move into your “American Dream.”…

The purpose between a narrative and descriptive essay differ from each other because of how you want to convey the story and how to accomplish the purpose. In How to Say Nothing in 500 Words, by Paul McHenry Roberts, the intended audience is for students and writers, and in Once More to the Lake, by E. B. White, it is for readers who had experience with sharing a moment with their loved ones, which both stories accomplish a specific audience.…

If you choose to write a narrative, it should be a story in which either you or someone you know well was actually involved. You should avoid stories that simply recount accidents. What I mean is this: a good story needs to have the element of choice in it. If you describe an accident, you need to show that decisions led up to it. This story should be about people, about the decisions they make and the consequences that follow.…

This story is about true friendship and getting over the small things… My best friend, Crystal, is a short 5 foot 4 inch hot head, that can be caring, but she lets little things bother her, just like I do, and she gets angry quickly, also like me. Maybe that is why we are such good friends, we are so much alike. We have been friends for about 7 years now and last year we had the biggest fight where we didn’t speak for months. It seemed like so much happened in that time that we really missed out on some of the most important days of each other’s lives.…

V for Vendetta (V4V) is the first film by director James McTeigue and was released in 2005. V4V is set in a very near futuristic London which is now under control by a very strict & fascist government which controls what the public believes through their materialised media network. One night, London is rocked by a bombing of the crown court followed soon by a mysterious character simply named ‘V’ taking over the news network and revealing his agenda to the public. A determined experienced detective is on the trail of ‘V’ but also finds out himself about the corruption within the government and a personal vendetta that V holds against the government. The way the narrative is delivered can easily be described as mainstream because of how the lives of the main & supporting actors change within the period of the film, for example the detective at the beginning is at peace, he is then exposed to trouble & corruption & then at the end he returns to peace after all, this can be described as a ‘Equilibrium – Disturbance – Equilibrium’ which is usually evident within movies with a ‘mainstream’ narrative. I think that a film with this type of story is best told with a mainstream, straight forward narrative because in the film there are many time gaps which are not so obvious for example the character eavy leaves ‘V’s hideout for quite some time but returns within 5 minutes of the film, even though she had been gone for months. Since it is obvious this film was aimed at mainstream audiences, films with a similar plot (1984, Akira, Oldboy) have never been too popular with mainstream audiences but because of V4V’s modern, stylish & cool visual combined with its appealing mainstream storytelling techniques it has become more popular than most within its unique genre.…

My best friend and I have been best friends since 4th grade. Growing up a few houses away from each other we were always getting ourselves into some sort of trouble and turning the neighborhood upside down. Even to this day we are partners in crime doing the craziest things together. One fall day after school I get a message from her and it was a tutorial on how to make a ninja mask out of a black t-shirt. Obviously us being us we had to try it. So I go find a black shirt and try it out. Not gonna lie, I thought it was pretty cool. A couple minutes later I hear a knock at my door, it was Shannon and her little brother Reed, who was my little brother, Tony’s, best friend. They were dressed in all black and their faces were covered in none other then, ninja masks. They came inside and were telling Tony and I how they got here. Running through people’s yards, hopping fences, rolling through bushes. Being bored and trying to avoid doing homework anyway possible, I don’t know why but we decided that it would be a good idea to dress in all black, put on our homemade ninja masks and run around town. So my brother and I changed into all black and off we went, four figures dressed in all black, faces covered with just our eyes showing, running down the street, through yards, over fences, and summersaulting through our neighbors yards until we arrived at our destination, the park at the end of our street. When we got to the park we just went to town. We were climbing the swings, trees, slide, soccer goal posts, basically anything we could find. In the midst of all our fun and having a great time, we didn’t notice right away when two police cars pulled up to both entrances of the park basically containing us in the park grounds. Once we noticed a cautious looking policeman was approaching us, we came out from the bushes, climbed down from the goal post, and down the slide scared that we were going to get in trouble, or worse…
