The Format of the Research Paper
I- The format of the research paper

● The title page: write your name on the left, at the top of the first page. Then write the teacher’s name, the course title and the date on separate lines. Double-space between the lines. Double space again and centre the title. Double space between the title and the first line of the text. Do not underline the title or put it in quotation marks or type it in capital letters.
● Print or type using a 12 point standard font, such as Times, Geneva, Bookman, etc. the typestyle must be easily recognized.
● Typing: typeface (readable,; standard)
● Margins: leave margins of one inch (2.54 cm) at the top and bottom of the text, and on both sides of the text.
● Spacing: a research paper must be double spaced throughout including quotations, notes and the list of works cited.
● Title: do not use a period after your title; if the subject deals with a book, it must be italicized.
● Page number: number all pages in the upper right hand corner, one half inch from the top; do not use the abbreviation p. before a page number or add a period or any other mark. Position the first line of text one inch from the top of the page.

II- The Mechanics of writing

1- Spelling a- Consistency: Spelling should be consistent throughout the research paper except in quotations, in which you must keep the spelling of the original, whether correct or not. (Dictionary) b- Word division: Do not divide words at the end of lines. You may leave the line short and begin the word on the next line.

2- Foreign words If you quote material in a foreign language, you must reproduce all accents and other marks exactly as they appear in the original (école, father …).
