The Film Shattered Glass
The film Shattered Glass by Billy Ray depicts a true story about how a young journalist wrote and published fake stories to The New Republic, the magazine that he worked for, until he got caught. The movie reflects on the do's and dont's that a journalist should always follow in order to maintain his/her reputation as an honest and accurate journalist as that is not only the right thing to do but it is one's duty as a journalist. Stephen Glass, the name of the character of the protaganist is the real name of the person on whom the film is based. The movie accurately portrays his real life. His former best friend said,"Steve was my colleague and very good friend, maybe something like a little brother, though we are only two years apart in age. Steve had a way of inspiring loyalty, not jealousy, in his fellow young writers, which was remarkable given how spectacularly successful he’d been in such a short time." Just like it is shown in the movie, Glass created a sweet, pleasing, humorous and charming personality in order to cover up the part of him which did not respect the moral codes of Journalism and wrote wrong facts and stories. Other than Forbes investigating into Glass' article which is shown in the movie, Rolling stone, George and Harper's also re-examined his contributions. They couldn't verify all of the details as many of Glass' sources were anonymous. 16 years later, in 2014, articles of his apology started floating around in media again.
