Everyone has their own way on how they value life whether it’s cherishing friends, traveling around the world, or learning as much as you can before the day it all ends. Some people take minutes figuring out how they value this human life and some people take hours. There are so many voices that are very confident in their opinions such as Roger Ebert, Hamlet, Steve Jobs etc. Chris Jones interviews Roger Ebert after Ebert had surgery to remove his cancerous tissue near his right jaw. In the article “The Essential Man”, Roger Ebert shows how he values life and what he does everyday to expand his movie critiques. Everyone has different ways on how they spend their time and Ebert does it by doing what he loves to do, watch movies. A quote that I really thought deeply about after I read it was in paragraph 34, “To make others less happy is a crime...We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try” . This made me realize how Roger Ebert valued his life. He spent his time doing what he loves and wanting happiness throughout the world.

In my opinion, he had a big impact on the way I look at life. The reason for that is, he kept striving for success and never being satisfied with whatever he received in life. After he got fired from apple, it made him more hungry for success. He started a company named NeXT, then created Pixar which created the film Toy Story. Something that Jobs said really impacted my life. This quote is in paragraph 15 in the article “You’ve got to find what you love”. He simply says “Don’t lose faith”.
