What makes someone or something a person? Does being human satisfy the definition of a person? No, there is actually a difference between “human” and “person”. “Human” is more of a biological concept, reflecting association in Homo sapiens. “Person,” on the other hand, is a philosophical concept, signifying a being with capacities of a specific sort. Such as being alive, being aware, feeling positive and negative sensations, emotions, a sense of self, and controlling your own behavior. Also, a person recognizes other persons and treats them appropriately, they can learn, retain, and recall information and solve complex problems with analytical thought. And a person can communicate in a way that suggests thought.…

At times I feel as though I'm trying and failing to be a human being. But what makes us human? I feel although I'm a human-shaped shell made out of pieces of things I find interesting. Instead of a real identity. Just layers of things that I hope will make me different from others. But am I? We rely so much on the opinion of others. But why? Why do we crave acceptance of others? If people were to look closely, they'd notice there really isn't anything there.Just a mess of a person trying to find their ‘place in the world. All we want is to be remembered. Just to prove we are something , we where something. How will I be remembered? Or will I fade into oblivion? Is this the meaning of life? To spend it hoping we have some significance in this…

What makes us human? What makes us human is our curiosity and constant evolution. What makes us human is the ability to create social categories and to form opinions. Abstract emotions including love, thought and creativity are what make us human. In 1984, George Orwell uses his dystopia to show that if we were to abolish these abstract emotions we would cease to be human and become the simple primates we once were; surviving for the sake of survival.…

In order to figure out the need to form bonds we must analyze the benefits and factors of attraction and relationships.…
By the eve of the revolution, the colonists had developed a sense of their identity and unity as Americans to a great extent. The colonists had their own vocabulary by this time. The colonists also had rights that were not available in Great Britain. The colonies had united for the first time during the French and Indian War, so they already had experience fighting for a common cause. Before the revolution against Great Britain, the colonists knew who they were and what they stood for.…
This paper contains the different definitions of what it means to be a human being and living a good life. In this paper we will take a look at Hobbes and Augustine’s definition of the human being and the good life. Both of these philosophers give examples of what they think the good life is, and the desires of human nature. In this paper I will talk about Augustine and his thought of how in order to live a good life, one needs to seek God to find true happiness. I will also talk about what being a human being and living the good life means to Hobbes, and his thought of how human equality is the ticket to happiness and the good life. I think Augustine offers a more accurate description of the human being and the good life because I agree that true happiness can’t be found in earthly things. I believe there is much more to life than finding happiness and self-worth in success, money, fame, popularity, and etc. Life chasing after materialistic items won’t bring you happiness because you will always feel like there is something more you want and desire, the materialistic items won’t satisfy you.…
The Human Spirit is an entity all its own, yet found on a very mortal plane not entirely alone. Our human spirit defines us outside the physical realm, it is the source of our strengths and weaknesses, and the very definition of our identity. For that reason the spirit in each of us differs in some way, and as we all face our individual challenges our spirits are also therefore individually affected. However as living beings we all share the presence of this spirit, as different as they maybe, and so I am not in the wrong to generalize the outcome of facing such adversity. In so many ways, the glorious human spirit is very close to a very ordinary, physical muscle. Just like a muscle the human spirit reacts in two ways towards adversity, it will either be worn down and rebuilt stronger, or be worn down the point of a complete breakdown from where there is no return.…
The Question of Identity: God created man in His image which makes humankind the highest form of creation. The Bible even goes so far as to state that we are “a little lower than the angels (Psalm 8:5). Man also has a unique calling that can only be accomplished through Christ (Philippians 1:6).…
