John states the purpose for recording the eight signs in his Gospel clearly in the 20th chapter: John 20:30 Now Jesus performed many other miraculous signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 20:31 But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John wrote about eight miracles or signs, these particular signs are ones that the Holy Spirit led him to write in his Gospel, they were the most significant and contained significant meaning to the intended audience. Each has the purpose of revealing Jesus’ deity thereby causing people to believe that Jesus is the Messiah and thus gaining eternal life in heaven.
The first sign takes place in the second chapter. Jesus was invited to a wedding feast where the host ran out of wine. In changing water into wine He manifested His glory. In this act He demonstrated that He was the true host on Israel. John was very specific about the timeline of events during this first week of Jesus’ ministry. This sign takes place on the seventh day of His ministry which was significant to Jews of the day as they regarded periods of seven days as reflecting God’s creative activity which coincided with Jesus creating a ministry in seven days, another sign of His deity.
The second sign occurs in the fourth chapter of John. There was a nobleman whose son was extremely weak and lay dying which is illustrative of the spiritual condition of the nation of Israel. The nobleman trusted in Jesus’ ability to heal just as Mary trusted in Jesus’ ability to spare the family shame at the wedding. Both signs resulted in belief in Him as the Messiah: in the case of the wine, the disciples believed and the nobleman’s family also believed as a result of the boy being healed. Jesus healed the boy who

The Gospel of John is written largely in Narrative history and contains sermons, parables, and several prophetic oracles. The key prominent personalities are Jesus, John the Baptist, the disciples, Mary-mother of Jesus, Mary, Martha, Lazarus and Pilate. The purpose of the book is to demonstrate the deity of Christ by inspiring and strengthening the faith of those who wanted to seek out and examine the early Judean ministry of Jesus’s life. The text begins with the Eternal Word and the divinity of Jesus Christ. Some of the key themes and events are the implications of all the Jesus did and the importance of believing in those…

I even tried to read other commentaries and information about this. In my opinion, the similarities of his gospel to the synoptic gospels is mainly due to the fact that they were all talking about Jesus. These seven signs serve as proofs of the power of God. The first miracle which was the turning of water into wine can be said that He has the power over the elements. This was witnessed only by the servants and His disciples. Maybe it was a way for the disciples to deepen and strengthen their faith in Him. The second miracle was when He encountered a nobleman whose son was sick to the point of death at Capernaum. The nobleman’s faith was tested and was rewarded by Him (John4:50). This miracle proved once again that through His words, everything is possible. The third, the healing of a man at the sheep-gate pool; fourth, the walking on water; fifth, the feeding of five thousand; sixth, the healing of the man born blind; and seventh, the raising of Lazarus. These miracles confirm that Jesus Christ is a God of power. He has the power over…

Although the miracles are found after the initial presentation of Jesus, they are located early in his ministry. The narrative is still forming the character of Jesus, showing who he was, what he can do, and perhaps foreshadowing his purpose through his actions of healing and teaching. In addition, the narrative is supporting claims made during the initial presentation, showing that Jesus is different from others and ultimately his relation to God. Understanding where the passages fit within the narrative can aid in creating a full interpretation, as it can offer potential reasons why that passage is in the narrative or the intention behind the passage’s…

John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, only records eight of the many miracles preformed by Jesus during his three year ministry on earth. John chose miracles that reveal Jesus as God in the flesh. This reflection of Jesus as God incarnate can be seen from a different angle in each of the recorded miraculous signs.…

    The Gospel Of John

The life of Jesus is demonstrated in a distinctive way, for example, in John. Mark, Matthew and Luke, they discuss Jesus’s ministry services in Galilee, while John’s discussion of Jesus is more in-depth, such as, his ministry services in Jerusalem, his divinity, performing miracles, his death and resurrection. The Gospel of John was composed of a substance that is more theological and is similarly as motivated and significant as the initial three gospels.…

For this paper I will examine Vietnamese culture according to the five essential questions all cultures must answer (according to Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck). I will then take those answers and compare then to out culture here in America. I realize that some might argue that using North American culture as a starting point is an attempt to simplify this writing, but I believe that any initial examination of something new is most effectively done in comparison to what one already knows.…
