The Eight Chained Ourang-Outangs Character Analysis
The character Hop Frog in “The Eight Chained Ourang-Outangs” is justified in the murdering of the King and his seven ministers. The first reason is that Hop Frog is not there voluntarily. He is captured, along with a dancer named Trippetta, by a general and is presented as a gift to the King. This is another joke the King laughed at. The two dwarfs are used as entertainment for the King throughout the story. The King describes Hop Frog’s value as a “trebled” since he is a jester, a dwarf, and a cripple. He is made fun of the way he walks, even though he cannot help it. The King goes to the extreme by making fun of his disability: “In fact, Hop-Frog could only get along by a sort of interjectional gait-something between a leap and a wriggle-a

In the story “Hop-Frog,” Hop-Frog is justified during his last jest to the king. The king treats him like trash while he talks to him during his performances and does not care about him: “His value was trebled in the eyes of the king, [The king is making fun of him] by the fact of his being also a dwarf and a cripple” (Poe 1). While he makes fun of Hop, he is getting more furious to the point where he is grinding his teeth. Further in the story the kind wants Hop-Frog to drink wine from a goblet even though he does not wish to: “ He knew that Hop-Frog was not fond of wine, for it excited the poor cripple to almost madness . . . But the king loved his practical jokes…”(Poe 2). This just shows how he is not a very good friend and even pushing…

To inherit, in general, means to come into possession of property from someone else, whether it’s through ancestry or a former owner. Loss is unfortunately associated with any gain, and therefore, loss is just as equally inherited as the possession gained. By becoming a part of the judge’s household, Sai not only inherited the lifestyle and relationships, but also the many forms of loss that accompanied their life. The young men participating in the rebellion for proper representation (creation of a new state – Gorkhaland) had inherited a loss of identity through the way they’ve been treated. The idea of loss is common throughout the book in different examples and intensities.…

One aspect of this play is the way in which Hansberry explores the various responses and attitudes amongst the black community to their situation at the time and in particular their identity. The most important character in this regard is Beneatha, who is the author 's main focus when it comes to assimilation. It is she who, through the two men in her life (who both represent opposite extremes in the assimilation debate), explores the various options open to blacks at the time. Asagai is the character who obviously represents rejecting assimilation and returning to embrace original African identity, whereas George to all intents and purposes does all he can to live a white man 's life in a white man 's world.…

When Poe characterizes Hop Frog, readers cannot help but feel sad for him. Not only was he a dwarf, but a crippled one at that. “…through the distortion of his legs, could he move with only great pain or difficulty along a road or floor…” Even with his trouble, he was still forced to be a court jester. “…Hop Frog could only get along by a sort of interjectional gait – something between a leap and a wriggle – a movement that afforded illimitable amusement…” Knowing that he had to endure the agony with every move he made in order to please the king and his ministers gives readers reason for siding with Hop Frog.…

In Bernard Evslin's Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of Greek Myths, the story of Hera teaches the Greeks the consequences of disobedience by trying to defeat Zeus. Hera, as a Greek goddess, protects and watches over women, marriages, and child-births. Juno, the Roman goddess, associates with Hera very closely. Hera comes from Cronos and Rhea along with her siblings Hestia, Demeter, Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus. Since she marries Zeus, the king of heaven, she takes on the name as Queen of Heaven. Hera's children include Ares, Hebe, Eileithyia, and Hephaestus. Hera's most sacred animal remains the peacock. Some modern-day influences from Hera include words such as hero, heroic, heroine, and heroism. Of all of traits and characteristics, people remember…

For my character I chose Beneatha. Beneatha’s dream was to become a doctor. Her dream was not achieved in the play because she didn’t have enough money to go to college. In my opinion she would have never achieved her dream. I say this because her family was against her becoming a doctor. They didn’t have any faith in her and would always make jokes about her becoming a doctor. I feel this would have caused Beneatha to not achieve her dream because she would feel nobody was on her and she would soon not care about the dream. In the end of the play Beneatha stated, “It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about people and how their bodies hurt…” ( Hansbery 88). This shows that she did give up hope at the end of the play and this is why her…
