The Duplicity Of Man In Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Robert Louis Stevenson was a nineteenth century writer who wrote many famous books such as Treasure Island, DR. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Kidnaped, and many more. In many of his books there was an idea (or hint) of his idea of the duplicity of man. Stevenson’s I idea of the duplicity of man was that they were opposites; a good side and a bad side. In his book, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde he wrote, “I reached years of reflection, … I stood already committed to profound duplicity of life”. This idea was often implemented (or hinted to) in many of his books. This is much like the chinses yig yag prothesey, there is always good in eveil and eveil in good. The two sides of characters are often portrayed differentially. Dr. Jekyll in the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is well respected, integrated socially, and as Dr. Jekyll wrote “my moral side”(pg.79). Dr. Jekyll often tried to fix the mistakes of his counterpart MR. Hyde. In the beging if the book MR.hde had stomped on a little girl, in recompense Dr. Jekyll wrote a check to the family of the child.
