The Dream House In Esperanza's The House On Mango Street
The House on Mango Street is in a poverty- stricken neighborhood in Chicago. That is where Esperanza Corderos and her family moved to. When the Corderos family lived in a house on Loomis, a nun (working at Esperanza’s school) was in disbelief when Esperanza pointed out where she and her family had lived. The way the nun acted affected Esperanza, making her feel dissatisfied and embarrassed of where she was living. Esperanza could not wait to move again. Esperanza describes the new house stating “ Bricks are crumbling in places, and the front door is so swollen you have to push hard to get in”.
