SYNOPSIS OF THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Andrea Sach, 23 years old, applies for a job as personal assistant in Runway magazine. Her educational background is the English Department of Brown majoring in creative writing. Because she was a creative writing student, she began dreaming of being a writer. Her dream job is being a worker of The New Yorker. Therefore, she thinks that it will be a great step to get closer to her dream job when she takes the job of being an assistant of the greatest editor and the most influential person in fashion industry, Miranda Priestly. During her school time in Connecticut, she did many activities that girls at her age did but fashion. High fashion was one big exception. She was never really concerned to the clothes she was wearing. Her relationship with her family is so close. She is also so close to Alex, her boyfriend and Lily, her close friend. Travelling, spending the night, and having dinner are what they used to do. This does not last until she works at Runway magazine. Working at Runway magazine as junior assistant of Miranda Priestly takes all Andrea’s attention. Her job description is actually anticipating and accommodating Priestly’s needs but it begins going astray because she has to accommodate and to arrange Miranda’s twin-daughter’s and her husband’s needs as well. She is always panic and stressed out every time she gets a demanding call from Miranda Priestly. It is because of Miranda’s impatience and intolerance. She once wants to quit the job because of it. The unwritten rules push Andrea Sach to wear clothes which she is not comfortable with. The long working hours make her have conflicts with people close to her. Because of her job, she has a fight with Alex, her boyfriend, and it makes them have a break. Lily, Andrea Sach’s close friend, gets mad to her because of the same case. Her job also leads her to her absence to her sister baby birth even though it will let her family down. However, that she gets conflicts

Myra must have experienced neurotic anxiety in the presence of her husband’s “authority” as she previously must have experienced unconscious feelings of destruction against her parents because of fear of punishment, so she exaggerates her cleanings and frequently portrays herself as a martyr who does so much for others and asks so little for herself, when in reality she usually over sees the cleaning and tells others what to do, and her husband or children help her. This same neurotic anxiety makes her aggressive towards her neighbor as once grass went flying into her garden from her neighbor’s while mowing; and as a result Myra threw a fit and did not talk to the neighbor for two years. Myra displays a disturbing pattern of establishing relationships and then ending them by being rude. She sometimes criticizes people to their faces, or she just stops calling them. Moreover, this neurotic anxiety makes her concerned about spending money and she refrains from expending it despite being middle class and really not poor. As a defense mechanism, Myra has developed an anal fixation, which manifests in her obsession with neatness and orderliness.…

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy is an adventurous novel about Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy Englishman who disguised himself under the false pretence of The Scarlet Pimpernel, a brave and clever man who used preposterous disguises to free innocent French aristocrats that had been convicted and were waiting to be put to death under the wrath of Madame Guillotine. Sir Blakeney was married to Marguerite St. Just, known to be the most beautiful and smartest women in Europe, but in France she was considered a traitor for revealing the Marquis de St. Cyr and his whole family to the bloody guillotine to help her brother Armand get revenge for almost being killed for loving the daughter of an aristocrat. This act of hers disgusted Blakeney, who started showing no love for her even though he would have done anything for her. Although Marguerite still loved her dear Percy, she couldn’t help feeling that he was a pompous jerk. Sir Blakeney’s arch-nemesis Monsieur Chauvelin struck a deal with Marguerite in her assistance to capture the Scarlet Pimpernel and his league in return for her brother’s safe release, as Chauvelin had captured him. Soon after, she realized what a horrible thing she had done and repents to Sir Blakeney, disclosing all the information she knows about Chauvelin’s plan. Sir Blakeney promised to protect Armand and stop Chauvelin by sailing to France. After he had left, Marguerite found several letters in his room stamped with the Scarlet Pimpernel. She realized that he is the Scarlet Pimpernel and enlisted the help of Sir Andrew Ffoulkes. They sailed to Calais as fast as they could in an attempt to warn Sir Blakeney that Chauvelin knew his identity. Their attempt was in vein, but Sir Blakeney was clever enough to figure out what was in store for him. He escaped Chauvelin’s trap and released Armand, revealing Chauvelin as a cruel man and casting a shadow over his name and condemning him to the guillotine. The Scarlet Pimpernel is a story of…
