The Dearth of Student Responsibility

Rhetorical Situation
Writer- I am a college student and a high school senior who has seen many examples of the lack of responsibility the authors write about in this article throughout my years of schooling.
Audience- Any teacher or student who has come in contact with the issues discussed in the article will be interested in it and will be who this essay is aimed at.
Topic- I will be writing about my experiences with students, and even teachers, who lack responsibility in the educational world, and how it is effecting them and the people around them now and in the future.
Purpose- Reflect on the article and its study of the continuing decline of student’s and teacher’s desire to work and be responsible. They are unprepared to enter the working world and college as students due to this lack of responsibility, greatly effecting our future as a nation. I myself have seen and experienced this decline, especially coming from very small and not very well run schools me entire life.
Context- This topic is near to me because as a student from a small town and school I have experienced the death of student responsibility in the classroom. I was the opposite of many of these students and chose to excel, but I still saw all the kids who had no drive to excel in high school, and all the teachers who did not try to push them to learn and be the best they could. I have witnessed so many teachers and students take the easy way out and it is so disappointing, especially when this stems from something like a lack of funding or caring by the state.
“Dea(r)th of student responsibility” is an article that addresses many of the frustrations both teachers and students face every day in school. There is a growing lack of accountability students feel to come to school, and to be mentally there as well. And this causes teachers to become lazy, lose steam, or get frustrated which then causes them to slack. It creates a snowball effect
