The Day Myth
During an ordinary morning before school, millions of mothers have nagged their children to chow down on a piece of toast or even a single apple before rushing out the door. Their response to the moaning and shrugging: “Don’t forget that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” But are these mothers’ actions based on the correct evidence? Or could this notion be merely a long withstanding myth? It appears that every decade brings new theories on what is healthy and what is the contrary. New trends seem to continuously emerge in the diet world faster than you can say “kale”. Americans switch nutritional principles with every new testimony, but there is one doctrine that has been cemented for years, though being ignored by periodic Paleo …show more content…
A widespread component of the breakfast debate is the possibility of a link between skipping the early-morning meal and gaining weight or losing weight. However, no such link has actually been proven. There have been numerous studies that have researched the correlation. One study published in the Journal of American Dietetic Association noted that while “breakfast eaters generally consumed more daily calories” and “were less likely to be overweight”, a limited number of their studies could palpably “associate breakfast skipping with overweight” (Rampersaud et al. 2005). Another study done by Emily J. Dhurandhar et al found that “contrary to widely espoused views [eating or skipping breakfast] had no discernable effect on weight loss in free-living adults who were attempting to lose weight” (Dhurandhar et al. 2014). Many believe in this correlation, and thus consider eating breakfast to be the most important meal of the day in terms of assuring weight loss. However, studies have not proven these theories, and correlation does not equate to causation. Just because an individual skips breakfast, does not guarantee they will eat more throughout the day and gain weight. If that individual is vegan and consumes fruits, vegetables, and wholesome foods throughout the day, there is a chance that these foods will fill them up more, and be easier to …show more content…
After all, it has been an idea that has withstood several decades. It cannot be questioned that food plays a vital role in ensuring that we are all healthy beings. This question is important because it forces people to reconsider their food choices. Ask yourself, is breakfast the most important meal of the day? Or are they all equally important? Does breakfast determine the majority of our health benefits? It can be fairly assumed that there are a significant amount of people who care about what they eat. Especially in this era, more and more people are beginning to become knowledgeable about where their food comes from and what the ingredients are. Regardless of how you rate breakfast’s level of importance, the significance of eating wholesome is something that hopefully can be mutually agreed

Firstly, I support the breakfast program because kids will have better health. For example, by eating breakfast kids have energy. For me, when I wake up in the morning I feel like going back to sleep. After hurrying to school and skipping breakfast I become distracted in class and my stomach begins to ache. However, with the breakfast program kids will come to school unstressed about missing breakfast and will be wide awake, full of energy and ready to learn. Adding the breakfast program will guarantee that kids maintain energy and succeed in school. Another example of why I support the breakfast program is because without breakfast you will develop a belly and/or become overweight. Without starting your metabolism early in the day, when lunch comes an issue occurs. Without breakfast you’re metabolism starts late in the day which will overall result in a very slow metabolism. However, with the breakfast program this obesity will not be an issue in this school district. The breakfast program will definitely help prevent kid and teen obesity.…

Michael Pollan’s recent book In Defense of Food offers a new outlook on food today. Unlike many other writers of our time, he discusses the flaws of the nutrionist system we have adopted and encourages his readers to once again follow their familiar family recipes. According to Pollan, we should no longer feel guilty about eating a traditional meal because of its supposed unhealthiness. Instead, we should embrace our roots and cultural cuisine because that is the diet that kept our ancestors alive and healthy, unlike the “scientifically proven” Western diet of today that is causing mass obesity epidemics and other health problems.…

Food is central to our lives and our traditions. Holidays, dates, parties, and most social events are planned around food. According to an ancient Egyptian proverb, a quarter of what you eat keeps you alive, and the other three-quarters keep your doctors alive (Fulkerson, 2013). What we think is good for us, is causing the health problems that are prevalent in the United States, and all around the world. For example, heart disease and cancer kill over one million American’s every year (Fulkerson, 2013). Milk was considered the most perfect food, but is it? According to recent studies, dairy…

One research study is clearly proving this fact. Professor Mary Nevill of Britain's Loughboroyugh University claims eating breakfast help accelerating cognitive ability, memory and concentration. According to his study aimed at 52 teenagers, higher concentration and longer short-term memory retention refers to those who had not skipped breakfast. In other words, Nevill findings represent that we must refrain from missing breakfast as far as it brings about significant influence on the brain activity. In addition to what had been said, skipping breakfast can also cause difficulties with intestine exercise due to irregular eating habits. Therefore it easily generates constipation which then leads to hemorrhoids and some skin trouble. Nor do the side effects end there. Obesity is also associated with breakfast. It is sure for people who feel severe hunger by skipping a meal to wander around for snacks, chocolates or sweets and again reduce the amount of eating at lunch and in the evening. This naturally makes a vicious cycle that includes excessive eating and innutrition.…

The consumption of a healthy breakfast is important to health, such as having lower blood cholesterol levels, tending to be thinner. On one hand, the students don’t know the fact that eating breakfast can help us lose weight rather than put on weight. They skip breakfast thinking they 're cutting calories, but by mid-morning and lunch, they are starved, which will cause them eat more at lunch time and dinner. What’s more, because regular breakfast eaters are full of energy in the morning, they are more likely to exercise regularly, which is helpful to keep fit. In Mullan’s survey, “breakfast skipping was more strongly associated with being overweight than physical inactive in a large sample of 13-16 year old adolescents”(264).On the other hand, “Nutrition-related chronic diseases (e.g., type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity) are increasing in…

Eating breakfast is a great way to get your metabolism working well for the day. When your body receives food in the morning, it tells your brain that you're going to need to start working to digest it. This wakes up the system and warms up the metabolism so it's ready to work throughout the day. When you don't eat breakfast in the morning, your body thinks that it needs to conserve the energy it has because it isn't getting any more through nutrition. This actually slows your metabolism down, which results in a decrease in the amount of calories you burn all day long.…
