The Crucible Characters
Abigail Williams- its her lies and jealousy that is the cause of the trials. she was afraid to get in trouble for dancing naked in the woods an witch craft that she turned the blame onto others.

Reverend Parris- all he wants is power and will stop at nothing to get it. he gets so into the witch hunt that he starts accusing people willy-nilly. he also goes along with all the accusation and gains personally from the trials.

John Proctor- he is basically the reason the trials started at all. he cheated on his wife and his lovers jealousy sparked the whole ideal. even though he tried to prove his wife's innocence, it backfired on him. while he wasn't part of the trials for the most part, he in my opinion, is one of the big reasons it continued and became as bad as it did.Abigail Williams- its her lies and jealousy that is the cause of the trials. she was afraid to get in trouble for dancing naked in the woods an witch craft that she turned the blame onto others.

This authority figure clings to his inherent power as a minister to gain social acceptance of the citizens of Salem. It is no surprise that the townspeople only show respect to his religious attributes, so he desperately clings onto every drop of reverence.
