The Crucible Abigail Williams
The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller and is based back in the early 1950’s. During this play, we learn about a girl named Abigail and some of her friends. Abigail and her friends were out in the forest dancing, and back then children were not allowed to do anything. Abigail did not want to get in trouble so she claimed that they were talking about witches. Soon the whole lie turns into a huge debacle, and are forced to deal with Abigail’s actions. In this play, many grudges are held and personal rivalries take place. The Crucible is a play about rumors and lies. Abigail Williams is a young girl who thinks she is in love. She is found dancing in the woods with other girls, and back then that was frowned upon. When she is confronted by her uncle, Reverend Parris, she claims that it was witchcraft and a work of the devil. When this takes place, John realizes that the girls were faking all of it. John takes Mary Warren to court with him to finally end this chaos. Mary has told him that it was all fake, that they are just acting. Abigail then subtly threatens Mary. Mary gave Elizabeth a doll and used it to her advantage in the court. After the doll is discovered Cheever says ”The girl, the Williams girl, Abi-gail Williams, sir. She sat to dinner in Reverend Parris’s house tonight, and without word nor warnin’ she falls to the floor. Like a struck beast, he says, and screamed a scream that a bull would weep to hear. And he goes to save her, and, stuck two inches in the flesh of her belly, he draw a needle out. And demandin’ of her how she come to be so stabbed, she - to Proctor now - testify it -were your wife’s familiar spirit pushed it in”(Miller 78). Abigail used Mary’s doll as a ticket to getting Elizabeth arrested. Abigail wants John Proctor and her grudge against Elizabeth is blocking her better
