The Coldest Winter Ever
The Coldest Winter Ever is a best-selling 1999 novel written by rapper and activist Sister Souljah.

Set in the projects of Brooklyn, New York, The Coldest Winter Ever is the story of Winter (aptly named because she was born during one of New York's worst snowstorms) Santiaga, the rebellious, pampered teenage daughter of a notorious drug dealer. Winter's father, Ricky Santiaga, has attained substantial wealth through his drug empire and lavishes his wife, Winter, and Winter's three younger sisters, Porsche, Lexus, and Mercedes, with the best things money can (and can not) buy. Unbeknownst to her father, Winter has picked up on all of his hustling tricks and does whatever is necessary to get what she wants. Winter's world is turned upside down, however, on her 16th birthday when her father suddenly decides to relocate his family and his growing "business" to Long Island, but Winter is determined not to sever ties with the old neighborhood. The downward spiral in Winter's young life begins when her mother gets shot in the face by foes of Santiaga. Shortly afterward, the FBI arrives at Santiaga's mansion, seizes all of his and the family's possessions, and the drug lord is sent to prison. It is at this juncture that Winter and her sisters are placed in the custody of the Bureau of Child Welfare (the girls are not placed in their mother's custody given the fact that she was unemployed). Refusing to live in a foster home, Winter goes to live with an aunt; the tables are turned on Winter when her aunt steals all of the money Winter has left, and her former best friend, Natalie reports her to the BCW as revenge and Winter officially becomes a ward of the state. After being taken out of her aunt's home, Winter starts living at the House of Success, a group home for teenage girls. Her new surroundings do not stop Winter from hustling; she makes money by selling her housemates clothes and cigarettes and doing their hair. Winter's main source of income, however, comes from

Sister Souljah’s style is like no other that I have read, her style is so real and honest. I can quickly understand about the novel (The coldest winter ever) I do not have to think twice about this novel like I do in the other novel that have different language from mine. As I read this book I feel like I am in the Winter’s world. Sister Souljah grew up in the underclass urban areas in New York and knows how Winter feels. I think Winter is actually a part or side of Sister Souljah. She tells the truth and nothing but the truth.…

The cloud of ash also has the capability to cause drastic climate changes, more importantly a severe change in temperature dropping in a “nuclear winter” (s4). It shows the true meaning of family, that even with a harsh and bitter life experience, the love between family allows one to overcome the problems faced. The cold possesses a unique ability for survival in the book as it…

Winter in Texas is a joyous time of year when Texans fight with windshield ice, buy ridiculously large coats to stay warm and wait for what feels like forever waiting for their vehicles to warm up. Despite these wintertime pleasantries, the cold months are an opportune time for landscapers to trim many several kinds of trees. While homeowners can have their trees trimmed year-round, various threats make wintertime pruning more prudent. It is important to have trees trimmed regularly as proper trimming trains foliage for healthy growth even among saplings - or young thin trees.…

“Winter Dreams” setting and tone was confusing. The setting was put at first when the main character, Dexter, was fourteen then suddenly he was twenty-three. Because of the changing ages, it was hard time to tell the year or season the story was in. Dexter went on long rants about how much he loved cool air, but almost a sentence later he wanted to quit his caddy job. The tone of the story would change from calm to happy to sad to exciting. The fluctuating emotions could make one very confused.…

Every adult has gone through a phase where they were rebellious towards, or simply didn't appreciate, their parents. While most parents have a great deal of affection for their children, some parents express themselves through their actions. For children who grew up with affectionate parents it may seem hard to visualize what it would be like to have a secluded and strained relationship with them. And unfortunately some children grow up with cold distant parents who have little to no affection for them. Some children have a complicated mix of affection and fretfulness or are filled with angst for no apparent reason. As children, many are unaware of their parent's affection or the struggles that exist from parenthood. I was lucky enough to be…

The poem “Those Winter Sundays,” by Robert Hayden is about a childhood memory. The childhood memory involved is indeed one that the speaker regrets, but also gains knowledge from the regretful state of mind. There are many children who either do not realize the amount of sacrifices that their parents go through for their sake. Having children and being able to take care of them is very important. Some children can grow up feeling unappreciative without the discipline of the parents similar to the speaker. The poem’s childhood memory gives readers an example of how unappreciative a person can feel towards their parents.…

"You know, sometimes I really fucking hate you." I exited the bathroom, and walked down the small hallway to Winter's door. The thin oak was covered in 'Do Not Enter' tape, probably stolen from either a crime scene or bought off Ebay. Knowing Winter, the former was true. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door, surprised it wasn't locked. I stepped over the plethora of books, magazines, and god knows what else littering the floor. For someone who was nearly as old as me, Winter was a slob.…
