The Boy Who Could Turn Into Things Analysis
Poof! Brian vanishes. In the short story “The Boy Who Could Turn Into Things” by Stuart Baum, Brian a lonely boy who is always magically turning into things because he wants to be someone else because he is never noticed, hates himself for what he is and then learns to love himself in the end. I think this story's theme is about how Brian the lonely boy gets through his struggle and school and overcomes his loneliness.
At the start of the story “The boy who could turn into things” Brian is sitting in class and he sees a couple of kids outside throwing a frisbee around and he wishes he was the frisbee. He disappears from class and no one notices that he is gone. This show that he is never noticed by his peers and his teachers. This

When Brian is walking home from school he changes into a bird because it is pretty and he wants someone to notice him. This shows that Brian is longing for someone to notice him and his abilities and that he wants to be something else,”I mean he could simply decide he wanted to be an object and poof” Another example of when Brian hates himself so he changes into something is when Brian is in math class and every time they got five questions right that student would get a marble. Brian wonders what is would be like to be marble and poof he was a marble. While some people think this part is nothing I think this part of the story means a lot because again this show that Brian is trying to be something that he's not because he hates himself for what he is.
At the end of the story we start to see that Brian wants to be Brian and not someone or something else he wants to be Brian the boy.He overcomes being unnoticed, lonely, and in the end find his true self. In “The boy Who Could Turn Into Things” we start to see Brian take a new approach to life as he makes a friend. This story teaches us it's okay to be our self and adventually you will not be lonely and hate yourself you just have to get through the tough things that Brian went through and remember that other people around the world are struggling with these things too. We start to see

"A boy is a man in miniature, although he may sometimes exhibit notable virtue… he is also schemer, self-seeker, traitor, Judas, crook, and villain - in short, a man." (Davies 9). The theme of being twice born is prevalent through the novel Fifth Business and is strongly demonstrated by the characters, Dunny, Percy and Paul. All three change their names, deny their past and become what their parents could never have imagined. Consequently, at the end of the novel, the characters come full circle, revealing the same boyhood traits they portrayed years ago and are 'thrice born '.…

“We all get lost sometimes and we forget who we are”(Jessica Mauboy). People are willing to give up their identity because society has led them to believe that they must conform to survive. In Lord of the Flies the children lose sight of who they really are so they can belong to Jack’s group; likewise, at Cherry Creek kids will often completely change who they are in order to be part of the popular group. As the story progresses, Jack and the hunters become savages “whose image refused to blend with that ancient picture of a boy in shorts and shirt” to gain the benefits of food and protection (Golding 183). During the book, the kids have an awakening after they accidentally kill Simon and have to contemplate whether they are “humans? Or…

One of the first things Brian comes to recognize about life is birth. Although the book begins at age four it is reasonable to consider that the birth of his brother, Bobbie, had a significant impact upon Brian. The next time Brian learns about birth is through his father, when he asks about a nest of pigeon eggs that he and Forbsie observed for some time. His father briefly explains how the eggs and the pigeons inside came to be, and Brian begins to understand that birth is the beginning of life. Brian discovers the birth and reproduction of another animal, rabbits, when Forbsie's herd gets out of control. When Brian visits Uncle Sean's farm, he takes a liking to a runt pig that Ab, Sean's hired hand, was meant to kill. Later on Brian decides that "it would always be a runt, a shivery runt. It had no twist in it's tail; it never would have. The world is a funny place." (244) Brian recognizes at this point that we are all conceived, grown…

Shaun Tan once said “You know it’s not real, but you can’t help but be drawn into the reality of it”. His picture book ‘The Lost Thing’ reflects on this statement; you know that the storybook world Tan has created is not in the slightest bit real, but if you look closer you can start relating it to your real life. This is shown in the way the main character has been presented as well as the lost thing, the reader can relate to both of these characters either by being lost or finding something lost. At the start of the book many adults are around but only the boy seems to see the lost thing, this shows that the adult world are so absorbed in what they are doing themselves that they never stop to look what is right in front of them. Tan also look at the idea of belonging, and when the lost thing finds a place where it doesn’t really belong but is happy, it is questioning the obsession we as humans have of belonging. Tan creates a story world with which we can relate to our own lives and use the morals we found there in our reality. As readers we tend to relate ourselves to the main character of the book, in ‘The Lost Thing’ we can relate ourselves both to the lost thing and the boy. The boy represents times when we have been busy, too busy looking at something else to realise the things right in front of us, “I was, as usual, was working tirelessly on my bottle top collection” The use of the commas in this with the words “As usual” leads us to think that the boy is admitting that he is always working on his collection, so absorbed in it. Being absorbed in one thing is the reality for most of us. We look down at our phones or are constantly trapped in our own thoughts and not look up to see what is standing all but three feet away from us and for that we miss out on it. But, the boy did look up he did notice the lost thing and it took him to a state of helpfulness, trying desperately to find it somewhere to belong, some people could also replate to this in the way…
