Yucca Mountain. Just a mountain you may think, but not just any mountain. A mountain that our Congressmen decided would be a great repository storage facility for spent nuclear reactor fuel and other radioactive waste. 196 billion dollars were spent towards this project. Back in 1987, this project was the ideal project to store radioactive waste. As the 1990’s and 2000’s crept in, Nevada’s residents were against this idea big time. Funding for the Yucca Mountain Repository was discontinued by Congress in February 2010. I disagree with this discontinuation.…

Over 1 billion years ago, molten rock was dispersed throughout the world. In time, this molten rock would form together which in turn formed the continents in which we live today. This is true for Pikes Peak as well. Being the tallest mountain of the region (standing at 14,278 feet) there is much for tourists to be attracted too.…

One of the most heavily protected and environmentally significant areas of Australia is the Blue Mountains region. It consists of a range of unique geology and biodiversity, and as a result it was found to be a prominent region in which it would be internationally recognized and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Estate because of the many natural facets (UNESCO, 2009 and Commonwealth Government, 2009a). There are numerous national parks that are now regarded as part of the Greater Blue Mountains area, since the founding of the Blue Mountains National park 50 years ago (SITE). The piece of artwork, done by Albert Bierstadt in 1863, titled Rocky Mountains, Lander's Peak, is an oil on canvas and is of true inspirational beauty. He perfectly captures the cool, vivid colors of the real forest. The scene makes you feel extremely calm, peaceful, and serene due to the relaxing nature of the picture itself. The cast shadows make the painting very 3-D and make you feel as though you are standing directly in the field, looking at the scenery yourself. The more you observe the painting, the more you can hear the horses in the field, the water rushing down the fall, and the more you can smell the fresh rocky mountain air. The extreme detail in the horses, people, and forestry show Bierstadt's time and effort spent in perfecting this masterpiece.…

Also known as the “New Negro Movement”, the Renaissance was the development of African American culture, and was the most influential movement in African American literary history, cultural literature, and music, theatrical and visual arts. DuBoise, and Langston Hughes, among others sought to reconceptualize “the Negro” apart from the white stereotypes that had influenced African-American’s relationship to their heritage and to each other. In this paper we will discuss the contributions Langston Hughes made to the movement and his thought process and reasoning for doing so.…
