First slide * In the 13th century, the Black Plague killed 30-60% of Europe’s population. The medieval times were taking place * There was the hundred-year war between France and England * Feudalism was falling - the system of political organization prevailing in Europe:the relation of lord to vassal with all land held in fee and as chief characteristics homage, the service of tenants under arms and in court, wardship, and forfeiture * Italy became the place where the renaissance, or the rebirth of Europe, would take place. Specifically Florence. This is because Italy had several factors that set it apart from the rest of the European nations * When the Roman

From 1472 until 1475, Leonardo painted one of his first distinguished masterpieces under the eye of Verrocchio. This piece, named The Annunciation, has aspects of Verrocchio’s influence, but it is recognized as one of da Vinci’s worst paintings. The Annunciation was a direct replica of Verrocchio’s dry linearity style. “The Annunciation is an uneasy combination of elements drawn from Verrocchio’s repertoire… it is an assembly of disparate parts amplified by the clumsiness of the spatial relationship between the Virgin and her immediate surroundings.” To da Vinci, this painting represented his limitations if he remained under the superiority of outdated artists.

* He moved to Milan in 1482 as a part of Ludovico’s court

* He had an insatiable hunger for knowledge that stayed with him for the rest of his life.

* Mona Lisa He paved the way for artists of the Late Renaissance like Michelangelo and Raphael, and his original artistic and scientific advancements are evident in works of art such as Mona Lisa. The figure in the painting is distinguished for her half smile and tilted body, making her appear to be moving. Da Vinci mastered a flawless transition and balance between light and dark, and the deep, receding background displays his appreciation for nature. Overall, the painting is an original, unique, priceless example of how da Vinci pushed past the

The rise of city-states in Italy during the Renaissance impacted western civilization economically through trade, politically through civic participation, and culturally through art. Culturally, city-states in Italy were big traders, and they came up with many new banking ideas. Politically, they started participating in democratic ways of governing. And culturally, Italy’s Renaissance artists made huge impacts on civilization. If not for the great contributions of Italian city-states, Western civilization would not be the same.…

Leonardo da Vinci is labeled as the Renaissance ‘’Man of the year.” Some may ask who is Leonardo da Vinci. Well sooner or later his name will be found in history books. He was born on April 15, 1452 in Florence, Italy. He is a painter, sculptor, engineer and architect. He is a well known master of art. He is studying the model of nature to paint with more realism. He is using the linear perspective to create illusion of depth and distance. A genius was not born over night. It took a lot of dedication and commitment. In his young years he worked hard to make his dreams come true. At fifteen he was sent to work as an apprentice in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio. In 1472 he was accepted into the painter’s guild of Florence. He helped Andrea del Verrocchio with numerous paintings. At one point he did a better job than his master. He no longer needed to work for him. If an apprentice is doing a better job than the master than you know that your work there is done! From that moment, Verrocchio decided not to put down his brush and his days of painting were over. He has kept us in awe with his new work the Mona Lisa. The revealing of this new painting was a life experience. This work is truly a beauty, I am happy to experience such talent. He incorporated movement and expression into his painting. He put a lot of work into this masterpiece. People have been waiting for weeks! Everyone knows that Leonardo has a true gift. He has other major works; one of them is The Last Supper. He has put a lot of effort into his works. He truly deserves this title.…

Leonardo da Vinci was a man of many accomplishments. He was a painter, architect, inventor, and a student of all things scientific.. Da Vinci received no formal education beyond basic reading, writing and math, but his father appreciated his artistic talent and apprenticed him at around age 15 to the noted sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio, of Florence. For about a decade, da Vinci refined his painting and sculpting techniques and trained in mechanical arts. When he was 20, in 1472, the painters’ guild of Florence offered da Vinci membership, but he remained with Verrocchio until he became an independent master in 1478. Around 1482, he began to paint his first commissioned work, The Adoration of the Magi, for Florence’s San Donato, a Scopeto monastery.…

Many experts seem to debate the authenticity of the ‘Annunciation’ piece to be the work of the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo Da Vinci, so it has been continually added and removed from the list of artworks said to be painted by Leonardo. Once thought to be the work of Domenico Ghirlandaio, this painting is now generally agreed to be an early work by Leonardo. The enclosed garden is meant to symbolize her virginity. Not much is known about the painting, such as the location of where it was painted. The reason for this being the ambiguity of who actually painted this piece. This painted is located in ‘Galleria degli’, an art gallery in Uffizi, Florence. The reason the ‘Annunciation’ is considered sacred art is because it illustrates a holy moment which is written in the Bible and is glorified by many Christians over the world. ‘The Annunciation’ depicts the moment when the angel Gabriel appears before Mary and informed her of her role in God’s plan. This painting meets the criteria of being ‘sacred art’ is…

I have chosen to write about one of the most significant figures in art, Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo Da Vinci was born on 15 april in 1452 in Vinci, Tuscany, Italy. Leonardo's full name was Leonardo di Ser Piero da Vinci, which means "Leonardo, Piero's son, from Vinci", the name he wore because he was born a bastard. Leonardo showed as a young man, talent for many aesthetic areas, for example. Sing, read poetry and play the lute. But he showed an even greater talent for painting and was hence in 1470 apprenticed to the leading Florentine painter, Andrea del Verocchio. Doctrine lasted two years and after that he chose to work as an apprentice to Andrea in a decade. After his time as apprentice to Andrea, he was given the chance to move to Milan to work for the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Since he was gifted in so many areas, he then many jobs, he worked as a court painter, sculptor, architect and engineer of Ludovico's army. During his time with Ludovico so he painted the famous painting, The Last Supper in 1498, the picture depicts Christ and his disciples at a dining table. After 17 years in the service of the Duke of Milan, he was forced to flee, when the French army occupied Milan and Sforza family's rule was overthrown. Leonardo then went to Mantua, and in turn to the water-located city of Venice, where his knowledge of the army engineering was taken advantage of and worked as an army engineer for a year until he went to Florence. Two years after his arrival in Florence united himself with Cesare Borgia, and went on his campaign, but then returned to Florence after Borgia's defeat. He then stayed in Florence in 1508, where he painted his, probably the most famous painting, the Mona Lisa. Leonardo was revoked then back to Milan the city now French governor, Charles d'Amboise. Leonardo worked in Milan with scientific studies and plans for the construction of a canal. In 1513 Leonardo went, accompanied by his pupil Francesco Melzi, the Vatican in order to win…
