The Best Vacation
What is your favorite vacation spot? I was finally entering “India” again, after a month-long sojourn into a world of Himalayan calm, yoga and Tibetan Buddhism (Dharamsala hardly feels like India). Was I ready to free fall back into the masala mania? While the traveler in me was excited to get back on the explorer’s road; the solo gal in me was dreading it. Having found roots for a month in my yoga-family cocoon, I wasn’t thrilled with going back to solo-roughing it. Fortunately when you flow with the universe, it provides you with what you need; thankfully, it granted me friends who wanted to visit the next city on my list– Amritsar.
I inhaled the new landscape, watching our six hour drive go from Dharamsala’s plush mountain valleys to arid Punjabi farmland, bhangra beats and turban coiffed men on motorbikes. Well-paved roads, an organized city layout and a stunning jewel of a gurudwara (the Golden Temple), we had arrived in the proud city of Sikhism. Was this India too? That warm and romantic feeling towards travel came over me again. India had surprised me with a different face again.
Amritsar was nicer and proudly distinct over other Indian cities and towns I’d been to layers cleaner too! The best vacation I had; even though it was short. But what can you see in Amritsar, if you’re short on time? The Golden Temple is an enormous Sikh Temple located in the heart of city Amritsar, and is the most important place of holy pilgrimage for the Sikhs. It is a powerful monument of immense historical importance that represents the magnificence and strength of the Sikhs spread all over the world. The glorious temple is a living example of the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds. In the other temples, the devotees have to climb up to offer their obeisance but, in the Golden Temple, devotees have to step down to offer their homage. You don't have to worry about not being able to find it as the temple walls dominate the surrounding

Living in a small town with few cultural differences, people after years living around each other having adapted to each other’s culture-made it difficult for me to choose a place. After, asking the professor for an advice about where to complete my ethnographic report, as suggested to visit a church, I decided to visit the Sikh temple located in Delano on Sunday, January 7th.…

I had been planning for the day I left for Hawaii for months and the day finally came. It actually came a lot quicker than I thought it would. I was so excited I could barely contain myself! When June 8th finally came around I jumped out of bed at 8 o’clock that morning and got ready as fast as I could. My flight didn’t leave till noon that day but I just couldn’t wait any longer! Even though we were going to Hawaii for my Mom’s work, its still a trip to Hawaii, and it was definitely one I will never forget. My grandma picked my Mom and I up from our house that day around 10:30 a.m. and dropped us off at the airport. I remember sitting at the gate waiting to board the plane to Salt Lake City, Utah feeling like I would soon be in paradise. We barely had any time to make it to our next plane in Salt Lake City, but we were practically starving to death so we stopped for some Chinese food. Every time we go to this airport we always stop through that same restaurant. Its really small and kind of like a fast food place but it’s so yummy and one of our favorites. So we ate our food and quickly made it to the next gate that would take us to Los Angeles, California. I wanted nothing more than for this flight to be over with so our next flight would be to Honolulu, Hawaii! Our flight to L.A. went by pretty quick actually. I sat by this adorable little boy on the plane, who looked to be about 8 or 9. He was just so cute. He just sat there quietly, drawing away. I couldn’t stand the thought that a 9 year old could be a better drawer than me, and he totally was. I can’t draw to save my life although I wish I could.…

    My Trip to India

Peering out of the international terminal window, I gaped at the colossal Boeing-747 plane standing in front of me, with not just one floor but two floors of seats. All buzzed up in excitement, I bombarded my father with questions about my first real trip to India. I say my first real trip because the first time I had been there was when I was an infant, probably being passed around and adored by countless relatives. "When are we leaving? When will we get there? Where are we staying?" I pestered my father, which got the usual response of "I'll tell you in a bit." This was the mark of my first summer vacation as a teenager, and what better place to go than to Madras, India to visit my relatives and catch a glimpse of a staggering large and different culture? I did not know what to expect traveling to my parent's home country but I knew it would be an experience that would be hard to forget. What really stood out in my mind were the overpopulation and the poverty levels.…

Choosing a destination for your vacation may be the easiest part of planning the whole trip but planning the details of it is the hard part. Some people have it down to a science and some do it all last minute. When you wait until the last minute to plan your trip it can end up being very expensive. I prefer to keep it simple and take my time planning my trip, keeping it as stress free as possible.…

Throughout my life I want have the chance to travel to the places I have wanted to go to. The first place that I would want to travel to is New York. I would like to go to New York City. I have never been there, but I have heard so many good things about that place. I would like to go to college out there, but I don't think that is going to happen. Some reasons why I want to go there is because I want to see the Statue of Liberty, in person. Someday I would like to move there. I think that one of the main reasons why I want to go to college, and someday move there, is because I want to get away from the desert life, and experiment with a new life style. Another reason why I want to move there is because I am the kind of person, who always wants to be on the go, and always doing something. Also because I am the kind of person who likes the city life, and I like to be around people.…

When I reached the airport, I understood that it wasn’t a good choice, but instead a really great one. I wear American clothes, eat American food, and do what the average American does. I didn’t really know too much about Indian culture except for the fact that they made their food really spicy compared to other countries. My parents always tried to tell me how rich Indian traditions were, but I was never able to understand. I finally understood my precious culture when I attended my aunt’s traditional and arranged wedding. This trip was one of the most memorable journeys of my life.…

In India, every corner turned is a plunge into cultural diversity. The people, the landscape, the aroma-infused air; to us it seems so exotic, but most of them probably don’t think twice about their divergent surroundings. That’s because, “while in India, living with cultural diversity is living in an environment that allows you to breathe and therefore slips in your consciousness without making a splash (Deshpande).” As an outsider, you might initially think everyone looks and therefore is the same, but really everything from their daily routines to their elaborate religious practices are quite complex. Social stratification, called the caste system, governs this complexity. Even if the diversity of the people isn’t immediately apparent to you, their cuisine will be. Full of different flavors, smells, colors, and of course tastes, Indian food is one of the most distinct that there is. I recently tried Indian food for the first time and it immediately captivated all my senses. Because it is a rather foreign concept to most and can be quite a complicated process, I will use this report to highlight some of its key features to hopefully shed some light on this exceptional culture.…

    Happiest memory

I was given a chance to visit the Himalayas, to one of the concealed places in the province where a panoramic view was preserved. It was very provincial and solemn. Its coniferous and subtropical forests, wetlands, and montane grasslands are as much a part of this world as the inhospitable, frozen mountaintops that tower above. The mountains were the wrinkles of age and pimples of youth on Earth's crusty outer skin. They rose up as the crust collides, cracks, crumbles, folds, and spews. They dominated their surroundings with towering height. I clearly remember when I was on my way there that the emerald shade produced by the different kinds of trees were smiling and alluring me to join them. However, what I first saw was just superficial compared to its hidden beauty awaiting me, as I explored the place, especially when I went around the surrounding area where the sun ate away the darkness. Since it was miles away from the city, I had to climb up the mountain. But, as I finally reached its zenith, I could step on the fogs as they rose going up to the sky and formed as clouds; I could feel that I was on the top of the world, thus the cold dewdrops touched my toes as they dispersed and went along with the air.…
