Organizational Psychology Paper
Psychology is used each and every day by everyone daily in their lives. When individuals make decisions and process thoughts, psychology is being used. The behaviors and actions behind behavior is a part of psychology. Expressing feeling and teaching others from prior knowledge also can be looked at as psychology. In many organizations psychology is used to learn behaviors and mental thoughts of employees and to teach proper ethics and policies within an organization (Jex & Britt, 2008). This research will go in depth about what are organizational psychology and the importance behind it. This research will also discuss the field of organizational psychology, analyze how research and statistics play a major role in organizational psychology, and talk about how organizational psychology is mainly used in organizations today.
In society, we as people hear about the positive behaviors of individuals in some organizations such as sports and the negatives of some individuals in organizations such as wrongful ethical practices through the media. As a normal activity, organizational psychology is a field of psychology in many organizations that is rarely dealt with and discussed (Jex & Britt, 2008). Organizational psychology is a form of science and methodology used to analyze behaviors and patterns of individuals who work in organizations (Jex & Britt, 2008). Organizations used this form of psychology for many reasons. It is used to better organizations as a whole in many ways. When organizational psychology is used, it is known to make organizations have high customer services, make more profits, and be more effective collectively (Jex & Britt, 2008). When these measures are enhanced, employee morale, behaviors, and performance are also enhanced. Through organizational psychology when positive behaviors are exercised, they can become a part of the positive attitudes and behaviors outside of the organization with families and communities (Jex & Britt, 2008).
When dealing with organizational psychology, statistics and research play a major factor as a key role in the study itself. In organizational psychology the scientist- practitioner model is used to further analyze the science of psychology and the effectiveness in an organization (Jex & Britt, 2008). It is comprised of scientific knowledge and put to use in organizations (Jex & Britt, 2008). An example of this is when an organization may have high turnover rates in a company, the model is used to scientifically analyze behaviors and why this is occurring to create a solution to the problem. Research methodology and statistics are important roles in organizational psychology. These methods are used to develop answers to behaviors in organizations, and are used to help management make decisions regarding attitudes and behaviors of employees (Jex & Britt, 2008). Several methods of data collections are used in organizational psychology to aid companies in carrying out the fields of research methodology and statistics on organizations. Two of them are observational methods which allows for observing behaviors and recording data and archival data which is the study of behavior where records are kept through time and compiled for independent study (Jex & Britt, 2008). Survey research is another form of data collection used in organizational psychology. It basically involves actual participants and their opinions from research questions asked about the attitudes and behaviors in and towards the organizations they are a part of (Jex & Britt, 2008). The role of the organizational psychologist is important because gathering scientific facts aids them in maximizing organizational psychology.
Organizational psychology is used in many forms in organizations across the board to develop superior employee morale and effective organizational practices. The forms of organizational psychology may be used is also intended for different purposes also. Organizational psychologists are used in organizations to make it more effective. This can evaluate employees and their own unique skills in order to see who does what tasks best. Organizational psychologists may be responsible in setting up training session in a classroom setting or through an online virtual training. Testing can be developed also to challenge the knowledge of employees in organizations. Organizational psychologists may also invent literature to further educate employees in what’s expected in an organization and how to effectively do their job and complete tasks.
