The Benefits of Healthy Eating
Food is the key to life. We need food for the basics of everyday

life to pump blood, move our body, and think thoughts. We can eat to

live well, live longer, and extend the quality of life. Eating is one of life’s greatest

pleasures. It is also a powerful way to enhance or impair your health. Most of us

are aware that food choices are important to health; very few people truly

realize that foods can promote health. Western medicine is so focused on

treating disease that prevention is often ignored. Part of disease prevention is making

sure you are eating foods that are healthy and nutrient dense. To function to the best of

our body’s ability it requires balance and harmony. The best place to start is with

healthy eating. The benefits of healthy eating are exceptional and there are many far-

reaching health advantages and gains that cannot be overlooked. Healthy eating

practices are important in shaping lifelong behaviors, as well as affecting ones’ health

and wellness. Harvard School of Public Health challenges us all to follow a healthy

foods diet to see how it can make a positive impact on your health. Vegetables and

fruits are clearly an important part of a good diet. Most everyone can benefit from eating

more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable

provides all the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different

vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins that you eat daily("Vegetables

When it comes to the topic of nutrition, most of us agree that in order to live a long healthy life one must eat right and choose nutritious alternatives to preserved and fast food products. The incredibly complicated and confusing question of what we humans should eat in order to be maximally healthy is a huge problem that lingers in our every day lives. In recent discussions of nutrition, a controversial issue has been whether obesity is determined by the food industry or the way we eat. Some are convinced that trusting yourself and your body will lead to better choices, others argue that eating food in moderation and more fruits and vegetables is the path to choose. In this day and age, there are many different debates on what one can do to eat healthier and make better decisions in regard to diet. Many people have proposed their own theories and advice on beginning a healthier lifestyle, such as Mary Maxfield and Michael Pollan.…

One important argument for the harmful effects of western diets and lifestyle is that they have negative effects on people’s physical health. First of all, the consumption of high-fat food, sugary desserts and drinks and red meat causes diseases. For example, after examining over 28,000 middle-aged women for 10 years, researchers find that the risk of developing high blood pressure is about 25 percent higher, comparing those who have red meat less than once every day with those who eat no red meat at all (Nutrition Action Health Letter 2008, p. 9). Moreover, according to Bray and Popkin (1998, p. 1171), when people have very-low-fat food they seldom have obesity and when people take more fat, they are more likely to become overweight. Secondly, less exercise, sedentary lifestyle and other bad habits make people unhealthy. For instance, according to Emerson (2005,p.141), there is clear evidence that low levels of physical exercise could lead to high risk of gaining cardiovascular disease, some cancers and type2 diabetes . Additionally, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol result in…

Also I was lacking in the required fruits and vegetables intake considerably. After evaluating my diet, I planned to make some changes to improve these intake levels, so that my body could receive the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and alive. A few steps that I took to make these changes in my diet was first documenting what I eat daily and also adding the recommended amounts from each food group into my daily meals. I accomplished this by measuring out my servings, and by adding a more variety and nutrient dense meal plan. Some examples would include a variety of fruits during breakfast to increase my fruit intake, a variety of nutrient-dense vegetables during dinner time to increase my vegetable intake. And to increase my milk intake I chose to add more milk products in my diet to acquire three total cups daily, these types of foods would include cheese, yogurts, and milk. Another few changes I made in my diet were drinking more water during meals to increase my diets water intake and decrease my diets sugar intake. Another change to my diet resulted from increasing my milk intake, vegetable intake, and fruit intake is an increase in calcium and other nutrients and minerals needed to keep my body functioning healthy. For example, accordingly the the pyramid tracker website, has shown a significant increase…

Because up to 75 percent of deaths in this country are a result of life-style related degenerative diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, depression, aging, and numerous other conditions, the importance of healthful eating is being stressed more and more.( The Nutrition Desk Reference, Robert Garrison Jr. M.A, R.Ph & Elizabeth Somer, M.A, R.D,1997). Although there are no magic pills, potions, or formula to prevent any specific illness, a few general dietary guidelines are supported by all major health-related organizations (The Nutrition Desk Reference 1997). The Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) is suggested levels of essential nutrients considered adequate to meet the nutritional needs of healthy individuals. These guidelines have been developed by the Food and nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences’ National Research Council, an agency composed of scientists and other experts chartered by Congress. (The Nutrition Desk Reference, Robert Garrison Jr. M.A, R.Ph & Elizabeth Somer, M.A, R.D, 1997). For Example, the RDA of these nutritious vitamins is as followed,…

Everyone asks themselves the question at one time or another if life is worth living. Usually the answer is, of course it is. Considering the fact that everyone wants to live happy and have long lives, then every meal is a chance for that to happen. The benefits of eating healthy have shown that a long and healthy life can be achieved by that one step. Healthy eating can improve the quality of life and enable sustained healthy living for a long time. Some of the many benefits seen from eating healthy are a heart that keeps pumping well into the twilight years, a well deserved payback of a sharp mind, and a solid structural system that supports the body. When the choice is made to eat healthy foods, there is not only an investment in keeping the body and mind in prime shape, but also the emotions are empowered with balance and stability. It seems that when the body aches, so does the rest of the human experience. As mentioned in an article by Dr. Ian K. Smith; (‘EAT’: A simple plan for a healthy, happy quality of life.) he says; “Healthy eating will make you happier and can add years to your life.” Consequently, when keeping healthy and vibrant, there is a picture of a hopeful future that can support the human desire to dream of an optimistic world. Family, friends and coworkers benefit as well because a healthy, happy person is a positive contribution to many aspects of living. When people put efforts into eating healthy, they find that they can have a very rewarding and satisfying life in the workplace and at home. Most of all, investing in a healthy eating lifestyle will contribute to ending a satisfying but laborious day of work with a full nights rest. Healthy people get to sleep better with less aches and pains, and this allow enough restful sleep to ensure another consistent level of productive energy for the next day’s adventure.…
