The Benefits of Exercise
The Benefits of Exercise If you want to feel better, live longer and have more energy then you should consider the health benefits of exercise. The health benefits of exercise do not discriminate against age, sex, race or religion. They are there for the taking if a person is willing to put forth the effort. Exercise can minimize or in some cases even help in eliminating certain health issues or risks such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, poor circulation, high cholesterol, fatigue, decreased libido and arthritis. One of the most notable effects exercise has on the body is the loss of body fat. Exercise can help you loose weight. With regular exercise, a person can also maintain control of their weight. Just a few revved up chores during the course of the day, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator can make a difference. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Exercise burns calories for fuel thereby giving you a higher energy level and creating weight loss. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Exercise boots your energy and causes you to feel healthy and strong. (Peterson) There are many health benefits to exercise. With regular exercise a person can boost their good cholesterol levels, and improve their circulation. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) Other health related problems and concerns such as arthritis, high blood pressure and diabetes can also be minimized with regular exercise.

Kirkland 2 Exercise strengthens your heart. Your heart is a muscle. Exercise works muscles. If your heart is healthy, it pumps blood through the body with ease and takes the stress off the blood vessels thereby lowering your blood pressure, and improving a person’s circulation. ( in press) Exercise has positive psychological benefits. There is an established connection between lack of regular exercise and depression. With exercise comes the production of endorphins, the “feel good” chemical that helps guard against anxiety and

    It has long been speculated that there is a relationship between exercise and it effects on anxiety and depression. However, it is not until recently that research has shown that exercise is associated with positive changes in mood and reductions in anxiety and depression. According to the Mental Health Victoria, depression is characterised by prolonged feelings of sadness, dejection and hopelessness and will affect one in four women and one in six men at some point in their lives. In the United States, anxiety disorders and depression are the most common mental health disorders costing the public $45 billion a year (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). Although people typically deal with these mood disturbances through psychological counseling, drug therapy, or both, more and more individuals are looking to exercise to promote their psychological well-being (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). The effects of exercise can be classified as either acute or chronic. Acute meaning immediate, but not necessarily, temporary effects arising from a single bout of exercise, and chronic relating to the long-term effects of exercise focusing on changes over time (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). The vast majority of research on the relationship between exercise and psychological well-being has used aerobic exercise and it was once believed that exercise needed to be of a sufficient duration and intensity to produce positive effects, however, more recent studies have indicated that high-intensity aerobic activity is not completely necessary to produce positive benefits, and that activities such as weight or strength training and other non-aerobic exercises can produce positive effects on psychological well-being (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 399).…
