The Beach
A new sunny day has just begun. The beach is silent, but only for a while. Very soon crowds of people will flood on to the beach. The bright, burning ball blinds and rises like a sunflower on the distant horizons. The subtle sea sparkles preciously as it strolls up against the shore spilling the previous day’s remains.

Crashing against the shore, small waves flash the night’s debris onto the beach. Untouched golden sand, so soft and smooth, glistens; reflecting the sun’s rays. A soothing, light and refreshing sea breeze rustles through the first visitors of the beach. The whole place itself shows a wide range of colours that reflect on the surface like a dancing peacock demonstrating its feathers.

The sun has now reached its peak. While the holidaymakers, already red like boiled lobsters, are battling to find the best place to lie down, beach shopkeepers prepare for their day of exited costumers bursting in and out of their small seafood shop.
Young children stumble onto the moist sand with small buckets and spades in their hands. Damp sand is forced in between their toes. Children run towards the shoreline; their parents struggle onto the sand, loaded like camels with everything they will need for their day.

Set apart from the young children, a group of teenagers are socializing with their drinks and enjoying music that blares louder than the seagull’s squawking overhead. Suddenly, the scent of hot food attracts them and they start running towards the sea shop like they haven’t eaten for weeks. While the teenagers gorge their food, the queue of others, who have been hypnotised by an overpowering scent of fast food, grows.

A hot breeze rushes through the visitors’ hair and they can taste the salt. The sound of the waves, crashing against the shore, seagulls swooping overhead and the strong scent of sun screen surrounds the beach.

The sea has now changed to a deep blue. Its smooth surface seemed destroyed because people were cramming in, splashing

You see, I do not necessarily care for the blistering hot days southern Florida is known for. I enjoy the beach the most when it is cooler; especially when it has just rained. I sit back in my beach chair and look up to the sky. The clouds create a pleasant, refreshing blanket from the hot sun. I take a deep breath and, I can smell the rain that has just fallen. Now, the clouds are breaking and letting little slivers of sunlight shine threw. The new sun seems to change the color of everything. The sand is a bright white with speckles of glittering shells. The ocean is a deep shade of aqua with the sunlight glistening over it. This is…

Waking up to the sound of the waves crashing, vendors on the beach are offering fresh cold coconuts; children are playing in the warm, equatorial water. The beach is serene and quiet compared to the wild parties of the night before. The sun is warming; the world is coming alive and the day beginning. You walk a little further and accommodate your route to avoid the build up of smashed bottles in the sand. A homeless man lies ahead of you. A plastic bag washes up on the shore along with a dead blowfish.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
