The Back Of The Turtle Thomas King Character Analysis
This I Believe
In the novel “The Back of the Turtle” by Thomas King, the characters face an extensive amount of issues in their lives that define their character. Whether or not they handled these situations effectively? That’s another story: 1. In the prologue of the novel, the reader meets Gabriel Quinn walking down the beach to his death. He decides that the only way to cope with the mistakes that he made is to end his life. I do not think that Gabriel handled this situation very well, he could have dealt with his problems in another way, though, later on the novel things work out pretty well for him. 2. Flashbacks in the novel reveal backstories about the characters, and it is revealed that Mara had returned to Samaritan Bay to reconcile with her past after she left to move to Toronto in order to follow her dreams of being a successful artist. I think that Mara made the right choice to return to Samaritan Bay, …show more content…
The CEO of the company Dominion in the story, Dorian Asher, deals with his failing marriage and mysterious illness by purchasing clothing from high end designers. Through Dorain surely has the money to be making these purchases, I do not agree with how he is handling the situation. He constantly misses his doctors appointments and continues to destroy the only relationship he has, with his wife. 4. Later in the story, Dorian Asher’s company is responsible for yet another toxic spill, this time in Athabasca. Instead of trying to clean up the chemical waste, Dorian spends his time trying to save the price of his stock market shares and make sure the image of his company is still in a good condition. 5. Sonny, a young, mentally challenged boy in Samaritan Bay loses his father in the disaster, and spends his life forward from that day salvaging what he finds on the beach, in hopes to impress his father. Though the task may be impossible, I think that this is a good way for Sonny to cope with the loss and destruction that comes to the
