The Airbus Affair
According to CBC’s The Fifth Estate, Brian Mulroney and Karlheinz Schreiber’s relationship began in the early 1980’s through Mulroney’s emergence as a force in the Tory party. Although this is when their relationship began, both parties have very different views as to what their relationship is. According to the Honorable Jeffrey J Oliphant, Mr. Schreiber came to believe that he and Mr. Mulroney had become friends however Mr. Schreiber is deluding himself if he believes that Mr. Mulroney was ever a close friend. Evidence provided in the Commission report suggests that meetings took place between Mr. Schreiber and Mr. Mulroney particularly twice during Mr. Mulroney’s final month in office: once on June 3, 1993, and again on June 23, 1993. Through this relationship, Schreiber ended up giving Mulroney sums of money that were allegedly taken from the ‘dirty’ money profit from the Airbus agreement with Air Canada. When Airbus was investigated, Mulroney and Schreiber’s relationship evolved into a 15 year investigation leading to one of the longest scandals in Canadian history.
It is interesting to note that after the official inquiries are over, the question still stands on why Mr. Mulroney refused to disclose his relationship with Mr.Schreiber, even after being sued in March 2007 by Mr.Schreiber for $300,000 and several allegations. Although this relationship was eventually explored, from the time of the LOR to proven phone call records; Mulroney deliberately lied on many occasions about this relationship with Karlheinz Schreiber. The question here is what did he have to loose since his families’ reputation was already in shambles and he already lost public confidence? When he first responds to initial allegations at the first press conference he states, “ “he has absolutely nothing to do with Air Canada’s decision to buy planes from Airbus nor did he receive a cent from anyone, he was simply not part of any conspiracy what so ever.” As seen in the Oliphant Commission

His boyish looks make him seem to young for politics whereas in comparison his political opponent Stephen Harper is a older male who is settled down giving the framing that to be a true candidate in politics one must be older more mature, this is not a clear definition that Trudeau is not able to run a country. Trudeau has made mistakes in the past from being young which the Conservative party is sure to mention to the public to get votes. By the Conservatives exploiting Trudeau makes Stephen Harper look good as a candidate. The media itself puts into societies minds that a political leader of the country should follow certain qualities. They are as follows; to be masculine, take charge and make decisions that will help all, put aside the personal life, engage or communicate with people and to be confident just to name a few. Through these gendered stereotype’s Trudeau is no reason he does not fit under these categories, his voice may be higher pitched and less monotone as Harpers but this is not a linguist reason for him to be categorized into a female role. Trudeau has put aside his personal life; only the conservatives pull out his past to put him down as a leader. He engages people through communication and this specific event is a way to specifically focus on women and their concerns and questions yet media easily takes this and makes it become a sexist event, which was…

Indeed, they polled 49.4% of the vote in 1959 but only 43.6% in 1964, a telling contribution to their defeat. Although some political analysts concur that the Liberal Revival did contribute somewhat to this landslide destruction in opinion polls, Marr concludes that the exemplifying reason for the Conservative downfall was weariness and a lack of spirit after thirteen unbroken years in government. Indeed, the Conservatives were viewed as, ‘out of touch,’ by the electorate and were plagued with various sex scandals, involving several key politicians. One such scandal was the Vassal Affair, where a civil worker within the Conservative Party was sought out to have been a Soviet spy. This greatly tarnished Macmillan’s ability as leader as he failed to spot a perpetrator at the heart of the Conservative establishment. Marr also brings to our attention the Philby Case, but more notorious was the Profumo Affair, in such a high ranking individual within the Conservative Party was caught to liaising in sexual relations with a lady with ties to the Soviet Embassy. In the heat of a Cold War environment, this was another grave security risk and provided satirical TV and radio shows with comical content for weeks as details of the case poured out of national newspapers. Moreover, the Argyll Case tarnished the reputation of the Conservative Party once and for all as…

Should Harry Stonecipher have been fired for having a consensual affair with another executive at Boeing Aircraft? The answer is most decidedly yes. In many people’s eyes this affair could have violated the company’s code of conduct, and went against the reason Harry Stonecipher was hired. His actions showed flaws in his character that could have been damaging to the company had he been allowed to stay. According to CBC News, ''An audit of the financial records of the Attawapiskat First Nations reserve has raised questions about the situation on the northern Ontario reserve and about its leader, Chief Theresa Spence'' (Schwartz, 2013). An independent auditing firm called Deloitte was hired by the federal government in 2011, to investigate $90 million that was given to the reserve. The firm is looking into how those federal funds have been spent since 2005 (Schwartz, 2013.) After a public campaign was held by Spence to raise awareness on issues such as housing and health crisis, the government felt it was time to look into how those federal funds were spent, and if they were spent appropriately. However, due to the lack of documentation provided by the Attawapiskat, Deloitte faced difficulties conducting a thorough audit. Such discrepancies may indicate fraud or corruption, nonetheless, Mak from the firm Rosen said ''given the absence of documentation, an auditor cannot conclude either way whether the affairs were properly conducted or not." (Schwartz, 2013). This is extremely significant, as it proposes that there is no…

When analyzing interventions it is important to consider certain criteria. The intervention within Airbus was pertinent to the organizations needs. The ICT workforce had gone through several reorganizations, which left them feeling tired of change and ultimately unable to produce results needed by the company. Donnan utilized an intervention strategy that would result in high performance and results by aligning all parts of the organization’s design (Cummings & Worley, 2015). The intervention, according to Cummings & Worley, resulted in “bottom line savings” and measurably better results in reference to “delivering on its products, services and cost promises” (p.335). It is hard to establish the extent to which an intervention is based on causal knowledge of intended outcomes. Determining whether one intervention method is better than another in this regard is difficult. The results of this case study as presented paint a pretty significant picture as to how successful this intervention was, however there is nothing specific to compare it to. Donnen had experienced large group interventions in the past as a participant, design team member and logistics team member. Based on her own experience, she was aware of the importance of aligned leadership and determined that this specific intervention would be best. Finally, it is important for organizations to recognize the importance of employees’ ability to continue the ability to manage change. For the ICT employees, this can be measured by how often they have these summits to maintain the change momentum. Following the 2010 initial summit, they have had summits each year since.…
