The relationship between fiction and nonfiction is very elaborate. The book, The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle deals with a family experiencing accidents each year in October and now they want to figure out why. In the book, Cara and her ex-step-brother accidentally fall in love. This tends to happen more often than we think in the world we live in. Fiction is a story that is created from your imagination but can also be inspired by true events. Nonfiction is a true story about real people and real events. But fiction reading is able to influence our ideas about real life.…

In relation to the second point from Marina’s story that most interested me, in 1979, when the Iranian Revolution occurred, it seemingly began to unravel Marina’s sense of normalcy. Building on that, the trauma of her arrest, imprisonment, torture, forced conversion, forced marriage, and subsequent rapes shattered it all together. While reading about these experiences of Marina’s, and how she continued to survive, was when the word ‘resilience’ began dominating my thoughts. Questions which came to the forefront of my mind that I would want to explore with Marina in a therapeutic relationship included, where did she find the strength the stand up against the regime, in her classroom to her teacher, and in prison when she was getting her feet…

In J.D. Salinger's novel Catcher in the Rye, and his short story “For Esme with Love and Squalor” intelligence is interconnected with trauma and reveals Salinger's views on what intelligence really is. A major theme throughout Catcher in the Rye is a character's intelligence. Holden uses a character's intelligence to define their character as a person, specifically how a character deals with trauma. In “For Esme with Love and Squalor” a character's intelligence also directly relates to that character's ability to overcome and cope with trauma from a different perspective. This theme reveals itself constantly throughout Salinger’s writing and is a large part of his style. In Salinger's writing a character's ability to overcome trauma is defined…

Graham Greene wrote a short story called “A Shocking Accident.” A nine year old boy named Jerome is told that his father has died in an accident and the only thing he could ask was “What happened to the pig?” Greene makes it known in this short story that humans are irrational and meaningless. Selective detail is used to enhance the theme that men are disconnected. Jerome’s father barely cared for his son and Jerome barely cared for his father. Man only care for themselves and Jerome will grow up to be just like his father.…
