Thanksgiving Meals

Food has always been something I enjoyed and looked forward to at any event or occasion. Each dish I ever encounter always finds a way into my heart. Over the years as I indulge in the consistent, irresistible tastes of food, I am always reminded of where my love for food originated. As I scroll back in time to find where this unknown passion for food sparked, I am always taken back to my grandmother’s Thanksgiving meal. This meal has shown me what it means to be comforted and to feel a sense of well-being. Even though every thanksgiving meal is the same, the meal is always like a gift to me that I can’t wait to open. Never have I ever felt this way about food. The time before that is agony, my anticipation intensifies and it just becomes hard to wait. When she finally finishes cooking, which seems like forever and a day, we head over to her house. We are soon joined together with the rest of our family members, with all the same expectations: Delicious food. As we walk into the house, our feet begin to squeak on worn out floors which housed a generation of eight kids. The floor was old but still fresh due to the fresh linen spray that embraced the whole room to welcome us. My grandmother then comes out of the kitchen to greet us in her foyer. Her clothes were drenched with a smell of flavor and love that she has created in the kitchen, which then gives us a preview of what we are about to experience. The aroma becomes stronger as she invites us into her kitchen. I can hear the bubbles begin to pop, I can hear the steam beginning to whistle, I can see the cheese begin to crisp over the casseroles. I grab a plate and fork and head toward the counter. I grab a spoon of steamy, bacon flavored collard greens, dripping with flavorful juices. I then get a serving of creamy potato salad topped with paprika with egg slices on top. Next,I head towards the ham and turkey. The meat is very tender and has a pineapple topping over it. After this, I slice myself a portion of cornbread that has been perfectly glazed over with butter . Lastly, I dig my spoon into a bowl of macaroni and cheese. The cheese is layered with sharp cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese which completes the dish to perfection. I then get a second plate to go underneath all of this food so it won’t fall from underneath my hands! As I take this plate to my table I am fully
