Thank You Ma Am By Langston Hughes
In the short story “Thank you Ma’am”, by Langston Hughes, the reader becomes aware of the great amount of trust, protagonist Luella Bates Washington Jones has in a boy named Roger. Luella, also known as Mrs.Jones is a passionate, strong minded woman who is almost robbed if it wasn’t for her brave character. The thief, Roger, is a young boy who tries to steal Mrs.Jones purse, only to be shocked with a harsh kick to his butt. In the text it states, “The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue-jeaned sitter.” (Hugh). Unfazed, Mrs.Jones grabs Roger and drags him towards her house. The author begins to introduce the caring side of Mrs.Jones, where she tells him to wash his face while she cooks him something to eat.
