Textbooks Unaffordable To College Students
The fact that textbooks are unaffordable to college students have become a nationwide concern. According to U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), textbook prices in 2004 were three times than that in 1986, with an average annual growth rate of 6%. Saving cost on textbooks is important because students need affordable textbooks to improve their study performance. A number of institutions at federal, state, and college levels have tried to find out the reasons behind the soaring price of textbooks and proposed different alternatives for students, such as low-cost used books, book rental and online resources.
