Assalamualaikum and a very good evening I wished to my beloved lecturer, Madam Shima and to all my fellow mates. My name is (name), I’m from PE department, 2nd year 1st semester. I have been studying Petroleum Engineering for almost 2 years now and have been exposed with many things regarding the Petroleum Engineering. So, I hope you guys can listen to what I’m going to present after this. (Slide 2) I believed that all of you, an engineer-to-be, will someday works with the oil and gas industry and will be working on the oil platform right? But did we aware of the risks that we will face while working on the oil rig? Let me give you the picture. (Slide 3) This is called a blowout. Scary isn’t it? You can see the scenery on how the fire burns down the platform, the explosion, the chaos. Can we imagine ourselves if we happen to be there at that time? All of this is because of a single blowout. The largest accidental oil rig blowout in the world was during the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion on the 20th April 2010 at the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, United States. The explosion killed 11 workers and injured 16 others. (Slide 4) So, what is a blowout? A blowout is the uncontrolled release of crude oil or natural gas from the reservoir. (Slide 5) So, today I will present about the major cause of the blowout, how to prevent it by introducing to you guys about the Blowout Preventer and lastly to increase the awareness of how blowout can give a big impact to us.…
