1. The acronym TESOL stands for – Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages.
2. 3 educational institutions in which ESL is taught: Middle School/ High School, English Centers (VUS, ILA, etc.), University, College.
3. The acronym ESL stands for – English as a Second Language.
4. The acronym ESP stands for – English of Specific (or Special) Purpose.
5. An IELTS test is an international English language testing system. 2 cases in which students must pass an IELTS test:
a. NESB (non-English speaking background) students who wish to study in Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom are required to pass an IELTS test before beginning tertiary study in these countries.
b. NESB students who wish to study in an international school or university at their local countries are required to have a certain IELTS score.
6. The method in TESOL methodology is the process used to provide proper planning, structure and continuity in the TESOL classroom.
7. Techniques to teach 5 new animal words to Beginner children: Worksheet, role-play, pair work, group discussion, description.
8. Different methods can be used for the same approach. In order to achieve a lesson plan, students should be given opportunities to practice through various techniques. For example, communicative approach is best learnt through the practice of listening and speaking skills, thus the students can be given some techniques to practice their conversation, such as: discussing, asking, questioning, expressing an opinion, etc. (Australian Training Academy, 2007)
9. Another term for “technique” is task or activity selected by the teacher for the students to practice the chosen language skills in the lesson.
10. Eclectic approach is a combination of other approaches since it allows the teacher to combine a variety of techniques that would normally fall under the theory of several different approaches.
