Title of presentation: Increase in Teenage Boy-girl Relationships in Singapore
Central idea/thesis: Statistics and trends of teenage dating in Singapore
1. Introduction (A) Attention-getter: Now if I could just get the guys and the girls in the room to turn and face each other for a bit? (Audience does so) Ok good. Now, guys and girls, I want you to pick the person that attracts you the most. (Give audience time to think) Are you done? Ok great! Now look real hard at the person you’ve picked, and think about this for a second. What if I told you that there’s a 22.9% that person is bored or curious enough to be in a relationship with you? Or how about this: What if I told you that there’s a 16.6% chance that that person might take a look at the couple next to them, think “hey, I want to be in a relationship too” and then get together with you?
(B) Purpose of presentation: To inform the audience of some statistics and trends with regards to teenage dating in Singapore. This is to facilitate understanding of some of the major trends and consequences, in order to educate groups of peers within each age demographic, and promote self- awareness as well as social awareness about teenage dating.
(C) Main points to be covered in the presentation: * Statistics of teenagers who get into boy-girl relationships out of curiosity and boredom * Statistics of teenagers who get into boy-girl relationships because of the increasing trend * Statistics of the drop in academic results due to boy-girl relationships * Statistics of depression being a negative consequence of boy-girl relationships * Statistics of unwanted pregnancy being a negative consequence of boy-girl relationships

Discussion Point # 1: Statistics of teenagers who get into boy-girl relationships out of curiosity and boredom Example/supporting points: * Major reason – 22.9% * Teenagers are at the age of adolescence * Hard for them to curb their curiosity Point # 2: Statistics of teenagers who get into boy-girl relationships because of the increasing trend Example/supporting points: * 16.6% engage in a boy-girl relationship due to the increasing trend * Follow trends so as to not be outcasts * Influenced by trends set by fellow peers

Example/supporting points: * 24% feel depression is a negative consequence * Break-ups can cause depression * Many teenagers cannot control their emotions and feel that a break-up is the end of the world

Being in a teenage boy-girl relationship is enriching as each relationship nurtures a strength or weakness within you. However, we need to consider all the consequences that come with it and make decisions wisely.

One of the world's biggest problems in today's society is teenage sex. United States has the highest pregnancy, abortion and child birth among teenagers. The biggest reason for this is because children grow up with the media promoting sex. Movies, music and magazines send the message that sex is okay and often expected. Teenagers don't fully understand the consequences that can arise from there decisions. The national campaign to prevent teen pregnancy has done a lot of studies and found about twenty percent of adolescents will have sexual intercourse before there fifteenth birthday and one in seven sexually active fourteen year olds will become pregnant. It has also been a concern that sexually active teenagers are far more likely to engage in other risky behaviors. Eighteen percent of sexually active young people reported that they drink regularly compared to three percent virgins. Similarly 29 percent of the sexually experienced adolescents said they had smoked regularly, and 43 percent had used marijuana, compared with 8 percent and 10 percent of the virgins. This report also found that teenagers have ample opportunities to engage in sexual activities. More than half of the fourteen year olds that were questioned have attended a party with no adult supervision, and about a third said that within the last three months, they had lain on a bed or couch alone with someone they liked. From half to three-quarters of the experienced 12- to 14-year-olds said they had used contraception the first time they had sex. About a quarter of the 12- to 14-years-olds had dated or had a romantic relationship with someone at least two years older -- and the greater the age difference, the more likely the relationship was to have included sexual intercourse, the study found. Teenage Fostin expects childish questions when all his friends find out he spent half his life as a child soldier in Africa. All Fostin's friends found out when his name came up when he was named a civic Young Citizen of the Year on Australia Day. In college, the cultural norm is that one should engage with the opposite gender casually until a meaningful encounter occurs. The University of Colorado at Boulder is known for its high rates of festivities, which is a leading factor in sexual behavior. The hypothesis of this study being, if students are in relationships during college they will be more inclined to have sex due to intimacy, whereas single students will not be as sexually active due to not being as emotionally attached.
