Teen Pregnancy
Reality TV shows make teenage girls think that it is okay to get pregnant, not get a high school diploma, and act like whores. Some TV shows even try to show a good side of getting pregnant. In my opinion girls need to graduate high school and not worry about a baby. Teenage girls watch a lot of shows that make it seem okay to get pregnant. Shows like Teen Mom, 16 & pregnant, and The Secret Life of an American Teenager are shows that portray sex. In Teen Mom they like to show all of the parents helping the child out and the family having a good time but they don’t show the real struggle. TV shows like to leave out the bad things that could come along with being pregnant and I believe that it makes teenagers want to have a baby because they believe its not hard. Being 16 & pregnant is not a good idea when you are in high school. You are in the 10th grade and you have two more years of school left. When you get pregnant or have a baby it is so hard to maintain your grades. A lot of teenagers drop out and get their GED because it is so hard to be a child and grow up at the same time. A lot of teenagers like going to prom, hanging out with friends, and just having time to relax but, when you have a baby all of that will change. Last but not least TV shows make girls want to get pregnant. On the show 16 & pregnant you have to be pregnant obviously to get on the show so, girls would have sex and try to get on. In the article Could Hollywood trick you into getting pregnant it says thirty one percent of teens say TV shows make teens want to have a baby. Social media needs to look into that and change what they are showing kids today. Reality TV seems to get into a lot of teenagers minds. They think since they see someone on TV that they are perfect or they could be some type of role model. So being pregnant on TV may encourage another teenager out there to have a baby. I believe that shows like Teen Mom and 16 & pregnant should go off air so teenagers will have better sense and worry about getting that high school diploma.

The shows are not sending the right message to teenage girls and because of that there are many teenage girls want to get pregnant on purpose. That’s why they made the movie “The Pregnancy Pact” showing how a group of teenage girls all wanted to be pregnant so they could “feel good and sexy” and feel attractive because they wanted all these attention from boys. The show has not only sent the wrong message to teenage girls but they have also taken the meaning out of pregnancy. The shows co-stars are on social media making pregnancy seem desirable. When pregnancy is something so meaningful to many women. For a women getting pregnant and being able to have children is already such an honor and blessing. For us women our body’s isn’t magazine perfect but when we look in the mirror we see a mom and there is no greater honor, love or blessing. For the show they don’t realize that and the have made pregnancy seem desirable and attractive to teenage girls and that’s something completely unacceptable. The Western Journal of Medicine states that on the average, teenage viewers see upwards of 143 incidents of sexual behavior on prime time television a week. This includes movies, television series, music videos, and advertisements, all without any warnings concerning teenage pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases. The program "Sixteen And Pregnant" on MTV, glorifies teenage girls participating in sex and becoming pregnant with or without a father. In some cases, these girls have no family involvment or support whatsoever. Other shows, such as "90210" and "Gossip Girls", target high school age children and younger generations with extreme sexual content. The average viewer age for these television shows is from eleven to seventeen. At this age, adolescents are developing sexual behaviors and attitudes, their actions and thoughts are easily influenced and the consequences of their actions are not thought out. They make decisions based on feelings, and this can lead to an unplanned pregnancy, a sexually transmitted disease, or both.…

Sex on TV and teen pregnancy. A total of 2,003 teens (ages 12 to 17 years) were asked how often they watched 23 popular TV shows that portrayed passionate kissing, sexual talk, and sexual intercourse. One to three years later they were interviewed again; 744 teens reported being sexually active. Those who watched the most TV shows with sexual content were two to three times more likely to become pregnant or to impregnate someone than were teens who watched the least. The authors say that the findings of this longitudinal study demonstrate "a prospective link" between watching the shows and becoming pregnant, with implications for pediatricians (who should be aware of the link), media outlets (which should portray the negative outcomes of sex), and parents (who should watch TV with their children and talk with them about sex).…
